Gertie
After losing four lovely dwarf hybrids to illnesses i didn't want another dwarf as our own pet.
But my OH wanted another dwarf girl in Betsy's spot in our bedroom and had already chosen a name. Betsy was very much his girl but he's well aware that all hamsters are different.
I compromised and agreed to get him a pedigree dwarfie hoping that with better genetics a dwarf may have a better chance of a long and healthy life.
So i went looking for Gertie and soon found her.
Today Gertie moved from Tristar hamstery in Bath to her retirement Hamster Heaven in our bedroom.
I'll leave her to settle for a few days before introducing this household to her. Had to take a quick photo though before leaving her to hamster about in peace.

Re: Gertie
Thank you both.
I just moved a bit of substrate away from the wheel when Gertie stuck her head out from her house and screeched at me angrily!
I guess i'm not allowed to touch her things.

Re: Gertie
Gertie has stopped screeching at me and has started taking mealworms from my fingers. She is curious, meerkating a lot and comes to the front of her cage but run off when i tried to stroke her. Early days so going at her pace. I'm so much looking forward to get to know her.

Re: Gertie
Just caught up with Gertie's thread She does look adorable and her screeching at you and loving her fresh food makes sense now she's had babies!

Re: Gertie
'Gertie off to play'
I was really looking forward to get to know Gertie. After her 8 babies had moved out of her Hamster Heaven she needed time to herself.
For the last few days she's become quite sociable with me and comes to her door so i can scoop her up in my hands and take her out of her cage. She enjoys free roaming or running around in the hamster playground. She comes back to me when she wants to go home.
Gertie goes into transport position on my hand but doesn't quite manage to go flat because she's such a rotund girl.
