Gertie says Thank You all and that Inky can't have her banana because it's hidden and a resident human fetches the hiacynth toilets from a shop down the road and then hoards them in a basket. I got a new one yesterday because the human said the old one was smelly. It wasn't, it was scented.

Gertie asked to come out just now so i put her on the floor and thought, that's my chance to check her hyacinth tunnel toilet which turned out to be smelly.

I went next door to get a new one from the basket. Gertie immediately came rushing towards me and demanded to get taken home. That's her on my hand in her transport position, as flat as a round dwarf can be.

Normally, i have to call her and coax her out with mealworms but when there is a toilet involved, she wants to know what's going on.

Aww, it is so funny how protective she is of her toilet. She looks so cute on your hand.

She has such beautiful markings, what a pretty little girl! I guess it makes sense they're protective of their toilet, they could feel vulnerable while going. Kind of funny, from what I've seen they only take seconds to go.

I thought that Gertie's urine was a bit smelly but put it down to the heat. Today i found some slightly discoloured substrate. The white Kaytee had an orangy pinkish tint to it so i made an appointment with the vet for Monday.
In the meantime i'm giving Gertie some Metacam.
I hope it's only an uti and not something more serious.

This house is jinxed. I really have to stick with Syrians and Robos in future. Dwarfs don't thrive here and it's not fair on them.

I really hope it is a UTI. It is really good you have metcam to give Gertie in the meantime.

White bedding is so good when it comes to noticing different coloured urine.

You always give your hamsters the most wonderful care.

Poor Gertie must think that i don't like her anymore.

I can't let her free roam just now in case she has an uti and could transfer the bacteria to others.

I let her out on my lap on a towel but that's not what she wants and she dislikes playpens.

Vet tomorrow and no idea how i'm going to explain that one to her. The mostly likely outcome will be a course of antibiotics.
