Default Aggressive Hamster Help

Hey, I adopted my hamster, Oreo, about a month ago. Till some time ago she was fine. However, recently she's become highly aggressive and has bitten most of the family members. The bite is very painful and there has been bleeding. She has never shown such aggressive behavior prior. Should I be worried? How can I reduce her biting?

Hello and welcome

I'm sorry to hear you are having a hard time, often sudden changes in behaviour can be down to something.

What type of hamster is she, how old and when does she bite?

She could be in pain or have become nervous in her cage. There are many reasons, if you can explain the situation a little more we can hopefully help both Oreo and your family have a calmer, happier life

Hey, thank you for your concern

She is a Winter White Dwarf hamster who is around 5 months old. She usually bites when we place our palm near the cage opening to feed her or to see if she would like to come out. She doesn't bite in any other occasion.

Thank you so much for your help

Hi, I recently adopted a winter white named Taro. He shows the same biting behavior. Later on, I do more observations on him and figured he has diabetes, which is the reason behind all the bitting. (He also drink a lot of water, pee a lot, and his cage smell very sweet)
There are many other reasons for his behavior. You should pay more attention and see what other behavior that he has.
Hope this help!
