Thanks Josie, Lilyanna has turned out to be a sleeper, unless it's in the wee hours of the night. I've had her for 3 mo & last night I came out to the hamster room & saw her on the wheel for the first time ever at 4:00am.

She's not tamed because of this sleepiness. Last night I lifted up her house to make sure she was ok, & give her a treat but she didn't take the treat so I put her house back about a minute or two later.

So when she saw me walk towards her for the first time at night she darted to her house. Also, for cleanings, she won't willingly walk into a cup or tube for transport.

It makes me so frustrated that she's like this. None of the other hammys do this? Except Melody, my Chinese but I just got her so it's too soon to see how taming goes with her. I stay up till late some nights too.

Can Lilyanna be happy with VERY little human contact?

Of course she can. They dont need us. We need them! Well they need us for food water and shelter but I am sure they are fine without handling.

Just a few minutes ago she came out for a drink. I fed her treats & she nibbled on my fingers. Then she sat on my hand so I lifted her up & cupped her with my hands. Of course she didn't know what to make of that and jump about 3 in into soft bedding. Then she came over a second time & sat in my hand & this time I didn't lift her. Very strange timing as I just posted on her above.

Thanks FF, somebody said that if a hammy won't be social then that means they aren't happy. I didn't think that's true tho, but wasn't sure?

Hamsters aren't really naturally social,so I wouldn't expect social behavior from them.If they chose to be social,that's wonderful,but otherwise they really shouldn't be forced so if they chose to not be social and dislike attention then stick to their comfort zone and you'll have a much better relationship due to that

My hammys feel less reclusive or skittish if I keep on giving them treats, even if it's just for 5 min / night. Heaven loves attention. Chloe loves being handled now that she can't bite. She has fun cupped in my hands trying to bite. Dakota loves attention too. Lilyanna would be tamed by now if I could see her while she's awake. But I need my sleep so if she wishes to be a sleeper I miss out on getting to know her.

But today she came out for awhile. I agree not to force taming. You can have more issues with trust if you rush taming.
