My 2nd Winter White
Hello First time posting here.
Anyway, my first hamster, a winter white male (Bamino or Bean) passed away a week ago. He truly was the best hamster in the world. I adopted him at about 2months old. He was already tamed and such a snuggle bug. He loved laying on his back eating treats. He would even sleep on me often, giving me kisses when I asked. At about a year and a half he developed tumors that eveuntually took his life. I did not remove them because he was still a very happy going guy. After he passed my house didn't feel the same and I decided to buy a baby winter white male. He is from a pet store and is extremely hyper. I've let him be, tried giving treats. I understand it will take time but I am really worried I won't be able to tame him, let alone get him to snuggle. He makes me miss Bean so much more, is there any thing I can do to ensure there is a strong bond between me and the new guy? (His name is Mozzarella or Motz)
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, he may not be a snuggly ham but just stay patient and spend lots of time with him and you should bond nicely in the end

Re: My 2nd Winter White
Bonding is ongoing, but unfortunately, not all hams like the same things. Some may tolerate petting, some are hands off, others are cuddle mongers, heh.....
Either way it will be interesting to discover who the new bundle of joy is when he lets his hair down?
cheers

Re: My 2nd Winter White
So cute! Look at his little feet .
Just wanted to let you know that pet store Winter Whites, Russians, and Campbell's are actually hybrids. They do make great pets, but, as you know, are prone to many health problems. Just keep an eye on him and ask questions on here if you need to .
Anyways, welcome to the forum and Motz (We call my Mozzarella Mozza) is very lucky to have you .

Re: My 2nd Winter White
Hello Cassielela and welcome to Hamster Central. I'm not sure whether the hammy in the photo is Bean or Motz. The little one is adorable though. It's always hard to lose these little furries, but it would be better for Motz if he can be himself and not a twin of Bean. They all have different personalities, which is what makes each one special . Take your time and you will bond with Motz in a whole new way than you did with Bean. One of my Syrians was very, very special to me, Coco. When he passed away it was really hard for me to even think of another hammy, even though I still had a young hammy, Patches. I joined HC shortly after and all the hammies were so wonderful that it made me decide to get more. Now I have 3 and they are all different, but I love them all to pieces.
