If your friend is willing to have one of the hamsters and would like a pet with their families agreement and also has a cage that would be suitable then that would be a good solution because then you could see both hamsters when you visit with each other and you could follow their progress
There are two species which can interbreed - the Campbells and the Winter White and this is because they are very similar in their genetics but the others cannot. They should not be interbred though because it can cause sickly hamsters to be born.
The two types you have will not breed.
Go with what your heart feels is right. Though all hamsters are lovely sometimes one will have a closer bond to you or you will just like something about that hamster that makes it a little bit extra special. It is always a good idea to have a good chat with your family before getting new pets to make sure that everyone agrees on what best fits in with your life style and finances.
