Meet Bubbagump an unexpected addition!
Okay, so Vala didn't have babies yesterday but we have Bronte who should be giving birth in the next fortnight, so what I am going to say next probably doesn't make a lot of sense...
We popped into P@H today, just to pick up some cat litter. As soon as we got through the door, one of the assistants raced up to me and said "Oh great, I've been looking out for you since last weekend, I really want to talk to you about something" He then explained that they had, in the back, a russian dwarf who appeared to have 'brain damage'. He said he had spoken to the manager who intended to put the poor thing to sleep as it was agreed that they couldn't re-home it, even as an adoption, to someone who wouldn't possibly understand all its need etc. The assistant had got the manager to agree to hold off for a week or so just in case he could get 'some hamster people he knew' to take it.
So guess who these people were?? Yup you got it! Well hearing that, we agreed to have a look and, of course, once we had a look we couldn't send the little mite back to certain doom, so I would love to introduce Bubbagump.
From what I can see s/he (we haven't sexed it yet) is a sapphire WW, however I think it may well be hybrid as the coat has an almost pinky quality, much lighter than our Smirnoff! S/he has a permanent nodding dog action, and is a bit shaky (plus the head is slightly 'uneven') however, whether for 2 days or 2 years, it will have a loving home with us. S/he is now settling into our spare Criceto Bernie Deluxe, and because of the possible neurological problem we have turned the house round so that it sits on the floor. Anyway - here are some pics and I would love to hear whether you think hybrid or not?

Wow what a gogeous little ham and a lovely name!
Well done for rescuing him/her at least we know that he/she will have a loving, secure home with you. Sorry, can't help with the hybrid thing.

How did they come to the conclusion that he might be "brain damaged"?
Am a little bit curious about all that! Could it not just be nerves? It does seem a rather harsh diagnosis!
He looks fantastic!

What a cute ham and a good job that you had gone in! What a coincidence!
S/he is probably a hybrid but they make nice pets - however that could be why he has neuro problems, hybrids tend to have a lot of problems and are susceptible to a lot of diseases.
Well done

It holds its head to the left all the time Gus, and nods it continuously. When it walks it shakes too, it looks a little like it has Parkinson's tbh. They've been keeping a close eye on it, and it hasn't got any worse etc. but I'll keep an eye out too and of course take it to the vets if I have any major concerns.
It is a little jumpy at the moment, and certainly whatever its got hasn't affected its flight instinct, as it shot out of my hand when I went to put it into the cage. But we haven't been bitten at all, and it is curious, comig to the side of the tank to see us!

Oh Teresa, he is beautiful! Good on you for taking him, I couldn't have left that sweet little thing either
I've no idea if he's a hybrid (Leanne should know after all the dwarfie's she judged with Andrew yesterday!) but his coat looks a different colour to any Sapphire wws I've ever seen and i guess it's more likely if he's got a neurological problem.
I feel so angry that foolish breeding of hybrids is giving animals like your little guy even more to deal with in their little lives

I am so glad to hear he has a forever home with you in a safe and loving enviroment. I would say he is hybrid myself as the face shape is quite mixed as is the colour. I have heard of this neurological problem with the head tilt and constant movements. As lond as he is thriving and doing well I think he has never known anything different and will accept it. If it affects his sleeping and eating you will know so here's hoping for a long and happy life. Welcome to the forum little cutie and what a fine name!

Aww, bless his little padded feet
Bubbagump is adorable and i'm so glad he has a loving home with you.
I dont know about you, but the person in the store who had that idea has a good head on them. Not something i would normally expect from a big pet shop chain imo.
Nevertheless, he is home with you and will be loved every day all day for the rest of his life! He really is beautiful, good luck with him
