Thistles Winter Coat ^^

So I know this is a little late, but I thought I'd post some pictures of my Thistle in her winter coat!

I got her in October and heard that WW (especially likely hybrids from petsmart) dont always change coats in captivity so i was soo excited when she did! Hehe i want her to stay this color

& sorry for the photo quality, they were just taken on my cell phone. The last picture is for comparison, what she looked like back in october

Cool, thats a really big change, so must have been interesting to see.

Two of our hybrids have changed a bit, but they didn't get anywhere near that different!
They have more winter-white showing than the other two, so were always more likely to change than their cagemates. They're now a lot lighter, fluffier and unfortunately more difficult to tell apart lol. Its still doable but not half as easily...

So cute! They do change color, as I know of a breeder who's had a few litters from Petsmart stock Winter Whites, and lots of the babies changed colors pretty spectacularly. I kept hoping my Lucy would change, but she started and stopped, as she became ill, and my bedroom lights probably interfere with her ability to detect a season change.

I like how the thread title confused me XD I have my own Thistle and she doesnt change in the winter just because she is awkward like that -.-

Your Thistle looks very pretty though I think agouti WWs look the prettiest mid-molt as they are a sort of marbled colour

Hamtastic- ya, i was making sure to ALWAYS turn off my lights when I wasnt in my room cause i really wanted her coat to change :P
and Erin- i totally agree! She was kind of speckled looking, it was cute ^^

what a nice colour! i love WW and campbells tbh they are my favourite species dont tell bubbles lol. i find it interesting when they change colour coats

She looks so sweet! Her winter coat is lovely! I've always enjoyed seeing how the hamsters that do change coat, change. It's quite interesting.

Does anyone know around when they start turning back?

She looks great! I think it depends when they start their coat change as to when they change back. It's pretty rapid too, within about a week or two they are back to normal.
However Hugo has just started on his Winter Coat a few days ago. He has the white eyebrows & a few patches on his cheeks. Last year he went completely white so I am hoping he will this year too.
He changed back in late April, Huxley & Horace changed back in mid March.
