Sometimes she will squeak at me when I open her box. It's never out of aggression. I think it's kinda cute. This time I came prepared with my camera and got some pictures of her. What are those things on the side of her mouth? I've seen them there since she was a baby and I first adopted her.
Yikes-it sounds like an angry squeak but I'll believe you
I wonder if the little masses on the side of her mouth are like molar teeth or maybe the pockets of her cheek when they aren't all full?

Oh wow, I've never seen or heard a hamster make that noise before! I think it's a startled noise more than an angry one. No idea what those white things are though... hmm.

I asked on another thread and someone told me it looks like the stuff covering the cheek pouches and that it looks normal.
Periwinkle has never acted aggressive in any way. She's really submissive and even had to be separated from her siblings at an early age because they all picked on her. She squeaked a lot when I first got her, even when you'd just walk by the cage not paying attention to her, but now she only does it if I spook her.
The video is funny because she screams and puts her hands up, and then just goes back to eating her food like nothing happened.
She is so cute! Hugo is very vocal too. She is just telling you she's not happy at being disturbed. Although she is not extremely angry. She would screech much louder & for longer if she was.
As for the white, my first thought was her molars? But it seems to far forward for that.
Ahhh, Cinnamon used to make that noise when I got her, very loudly and for a long time. She would bite me like crazy O.o
She was very scared, poor thing
She still makes it from time to time if she's telling me off for being irritating tehe, similair to yours I guess ^^
Not sure what that stuff is :S
This is definitely a territorial aggressive squeak - actually more like a warning rattle! Our uber-freaked out roborovski used to make this noise everytime you opened the cage door.
