Default new winter white!

My daughter has got her winter white hamster after much deliberation

I think it is a sapphire colour as he has greyish/lilac tone to his fur

His is so cute and is housed in a mini duna atm whilst he settles in.

when can he start being handled? and do they like sandbaths the same as robos?

will post pics when he is settled!

Excellent!

I would give him a couple days to adjust where he can have some quiet time to explore his cage and settle in. Maybe start offering him treats gradually on the second-third day and if he's receptive to the attention and comes out to say hello, I would go from there. If he's super skittish, I'd give him more time, if not, can start handling him soon for short times, rewarding him with treats.

They do love sandbaths!

Thanks will do that

He seems very laid back and inquisitive, a bit timid obviously atm but think he will be okay

Have placed a bowl of bathing sand for him so hopefully he will like it

You can have a sunflower seed in your fingers hovering over his head, leading him to walk onto your other hand. Then you can give him the seed and he'll hopefully eat it while sitting in your hand. You can take him out like that gently and let him walk over your hands. That's what I did with my Lucy.

Just make sure you take him out over some surface in close proximity--scared hamsters can leap out and land someplace hard sometimes without warning

Aww he is adorable & yes a Sapphire as Mangomimi has already said. I have two Sapphire's myself.

Once you have tamed him he will be a great little hamster to have. It didn't take long for my three WW's to get used to me. Good Luck.
