Winter Whites in the US?
How hard is it to come across Winter Whites in pet stores in the US? Particulary PetSmart here in Virginia? I'm asking because I've decided that I'm going to get two maybe three dwarf hamsters, and so far I think I've decided on Winter Whites. :P Also is there any info particulary on Winter Whites that I need to know before possibly getting them?
Thanx a lot,
Chris Richardson

Hi Chris
A quick google turned up this breeder of WWs in Charleston, West Virginia - my US geography is appalling so I don't know if that's any use to you. Here's the link http://HouseOfHamster.cjb.net. She seems to have sound policies and might be worth contacting even if she's not close enough to you, she might know someone who is.
Hope that helps a bit
Em x

Im always so iffy about the "Siberian" or "dwarf Russian" hamster on pets stores like petco and petsmart just because it doesnt really tell you if they are Campbell's or Winter Whites.
But from looking at pictures of WW here on the forum it seems that WW have a more rounded nose similar to that of the Roborovski.. But it still hard to tell for me.
Both the Campbells and WW seems to have that white eyebrow and are similar in color. Well good luck with that! When Im looking for a certain rodent like hamsters or gerbils Ill type in for example on google..
"Winter white hamster breeders" "or " winter white hamster breeders list" or "winter white hamster breeders USA" or you can type in what state particularly. It will usually bring up websites with breeders links or msn groups with breeders links..
This is how I found my new gerbil sam.. I just googled until I found a fairly local breeder that had what I wanted, had to drive an hour to a meeting place though!

Breeders listings
You are best to try the big hamster forums such as Hamsters Galore or Spoiled Hamsters - they have all the small breeders listing there usually, and many of these guys do not have actual websites - of course Hamster Central hopes to offer the same information to you soon... If anyone knows a hamster breeder please ask them to get in touch with Candace and she will add their details to Hamster Central, and they can post free classifieds here on the forum.
