Robos aren't that food orientated or motivated by out of cage time so it can be difficult to find something they want and we've got.
The sunflower seeds are due tomorrow. What I have noticed is, he only likes tiny food. He will eat cucumber and lettuce if I cut it into tiny pieces for example. He does not touch meal worms or calico worms. I have bought tofu and trying that tonight. He is quite picky with food. He will not touch pea flakes or nigela seeds or even lentils. He does like linseed and that is part of his food mix.

I agree with you about robos not being food motivated. The only thing he adores is his wheel.

what I noticed about my robos, is that they rarely eat sunflower seeds that they need to crack open, but when I gave them the pre-shelled ones, they became so obsessed that I was able to use them for taming. so if the sunflower seeds don't work, maybe you can try getting pre-shelled ones

That is a great tip. Thank you very much.

Scottie run around the hamster playground again tonight. He came out in his Munchies mug hamster taxi and run back into the mug when i tried to catch him to go back home.

Funny thing is that when i put him back in his cage while still chatting to him, he comes to the front of the cage and looks at me. Just sits there and looks and listens.

I'd love to know what he's thinking when he does that.

How adorable! For him to look and listen while you talk. Maybe he finds your voice soothing.

Cool Re: Scottie

There is a pattern emerging now.

For a few days running Scottie comes to the front of his cage to get mealworms in the morning and spends time above ground during the day. He sits on his shelf during the day and appears to listen to me chattering.

Then he's about a lot late evening and walks into his mug for out of cage time. Has a good run around, runs on the wheels and explores the toys.
When i put him back he looks and listens to me as aforementioned.

Then i hardly see him for a few days. He's underground in the morning, not about during the day and gets up when the lights are out or sits in a tube waiting for me to go to bed.

What i've concluded sofar is that Scottie likes out of cage time once a week or so. He is not shy or scared when out.

He's happy in his Hamster Heaven set up and he responds to his name and my voice.

In personality, Scottie is very much like our first hamster Henry who was a very self contained Syrian. Happy pottering about in his Alaska, not scared of humans but not seeking out their company much either. Henry asked for out of cage time about once a week but that was enough for him.

This tells me that a hamster's behaviour and level of interactions with humans depends more on the individual hamster's personality than species.

Wow! This is fascinating. So Scottie just wants to come out once a week and when he does he is not shy.

I think you are right about personality rather then species. I know people tend to think certain things like Syrians are friendly but I have heard of some who are very shy.

That's awesome he's settled into a routine, they really seem to benefit from one. How does Scottie signal he wants out of cage time? Do you just know when he hangs around so much?

Yes, he hangs around and when i hold his mug in, he walks into it. Sometimes he shuffles back and forth a couple of times but Robos are like that. They are undecisive and hesitant. When he doesn't want to come out, he runs away.
