Re: Scottie
Scottie walked into his mug again for some out of cage time tonight. He definitely enjoys being out. The mug works really well. He comes forward sniffing and eventually walks into it but when he's not interested he runs off and sits in his tube watching until i take the mug out.
I'm working on trying to get him to walk into the mug from the playground to put him back in his cage. Not sure that's going to happen but i think there's a chance. He listens to his name and doesn't run away from me now which is huge progress with a Robo. Tonight he run into the tube next to me so i tipped him into my lap and picked him up.

Re: Scottie
That's too precious, I love that you gave him 3 wheels! That must be robo heaven. Are they really that skittish and hard to tame?

They are so very fast and small which makes them hard to catch for taming sessions. Like with all species, a lot depends on their personalities and how much time their humans spend with them. Some Robos become very tame.

I'm pretty sure that he will be. Orko doesn't run away when you watch him wheeling and you've only had him for a short time which is very promising. He's not one of those super shy Robos and his confidence will keep growing as you get to know each other. Robos take their time and don't exactly rush into things, lol.
I reserve mealworms as treats, Scottie has to come and get. In the early days, i put the mealworm on his shelf so he got the taste for them but now i hold them in my fingers while talking to him. I'm not trying for him to connect my hand with food but to associate my voice and smell with something positive.
It's still sniff sniff, comes forward, sniff, takes two steps back, comes forward again sniffing and then slowly slowly edges
forward to take the mealworm. That's with my hand inside his cage. Different when the cage door is closed and he comes to the front shelf to get his mealworm. With the bars between us he takes the mealworm and eats it right in front of me.
I think once you introduce him to something he really likes and wants, you can use that to make contact.
If Scottie has an "off" day and doesn't come forward to get his worm, i still leave it for him.

That is really cute. I think it is nice for hamsters to associate us with nice things.
I hear how much robo's love mealworms but Orko will not touch them!

That's unusual. Does he like sunflower seeds? They love cracking them open which they can do really fast to get to the seed.
Robo Gordon took brown linseeds from my hand sometimes but took him three month to pluck up the courage.
Robos aren't that food orientated or motivated by out of cage time so it can be difficult to find something they want and we've got.
