Thank you Meeekie. He is invisible lol. Today is two weeks since he arrived, so had his settling in time. But we never see him. Only comes out after lights out at night. I’ve seen him a few times when I got up in the middle of the night (he doesn’t run and hide) but other than that only on the hamstercam recording. Before I got him they said he came out in the afternoons and late at night. That might have changed- different environment, bigger cage.

I might start putting his food out in the afternoons instead and see if that tempts him out. It doesn’t tempt him out at night! Pickle comes out as soon as he smells good and hears the cage opening. Pip waits till lights out.

Slight concern is - where the veg is going with Pip! Like our last Robo he just nibbles a bit and leaves the rest on the dish. Which is what he did the first few nights do I could remove the leftover bit next day. Recently there has been nothing left to remove so suspect he is stashing it somewhere. But where? Don’t fancy having rotten veg in the cage. I well remember finding a rotting blueberry in Nugget’s cage with a few bugs crawling out of it! But at least Nugget’s veg etc were usually left accessible! Spot cleaning could be interesting. I may have to peek in his house now but I have a feeling he’s tunnelled under it and nesting under the bendy bridge. Anyway - probably that end of the cage where he’s hoarding.

I’d like to try and progress taming a bit this week. Beyond chatting through the bars in the middle of the night! He didn’t freak at a hand in the cage but wouldn’t take sunflower seeds from it. Although he doesn’t actually seem that interested in sunflower seeds and leaves them when put out in the cage. Need to find his preference. But - I do remember an article on a Robo breeder’s website saying robos aren’t tempted by food so not a good ruse for taming.

Just wanted to say that I found the way to Comets heart has 100% been food.
Mealworms/walnuts/whimzees/flax sprays/other sprays/eben his food mix on a spoon.
With the walnut I hold onto the shell and he will sit and eat the walnut right next to me. I found it a good way of him getting used to me. He still doesn't like to be picked up but I go with what he wants.

Thanks for that Luna - so sounds like they vary - and I need to find his favourite food.

I think he is well and truly settled in his cage now - it’s a mess lol. He continues to poop a lot - seems to think the hemp mats are toilets. Masses of teeny poops! Food scattered round the bowl. He’s dragged a chew twice the size of him from the shelf onto the floor of the cage.

And it seems he has been in the egg box hammock! Which was there as a safety net in the unlikely situation that he climbed to the roof and monkey barred across the cage. It’s too high for him to get into but it’s now tilted down at one end (perhaps he reached across from the shelf) and he has transported some linseeds from the other side of the cage and deposited them in the hammock.

I shall have to look at the hamstercam recordings and see what he’s been up to. I think he’s been on the large hammock as well - up near the roof - the odd seed on there. That doesn’t matter as he can only get onto a shelf from there and no drop.

But if he’s using them I might need another bigger hammock than the egg box one which could tip him out (although not that far and only onto the cork) or he could fall between the gap between the hammock and egg box. Not too far but the cork piece is there rather than just substrate. I don’t think it’s an injury risk but would like it a bit more secure if he’s going to use them.

So after that I tried offering Pip some food on the palm of my hand. Lol! He only comes out at night at the moment - around 11pm. But seems well settled in and not bothered if anyone is in the room.

So he was on top of his house roof and I put my hand nearby with food on one night. He hid in a tube a couple of times but kept coming out to investigate. Eventually he decided the hand wasn't scary but turned his back on it and sat and had a wash instead.

So the next night I tried again. This time he had gone into one of his hides in the cage so I put my hand in front of the hide this time. Tried cheese instead of sunflower seeds. Anyway he frightened the life out of me! Ran at me so fast he nearly shot out of the open front door, making me squeal! But at the last second turned and ran up the ladder instead. Phew.

I now have cushions on the floor in front of the cage in case he tries that again!

He was seeing me off! He likes his cage - is well and truly settled in and confident in it.

So I've gone back to talking to him again for now and he seems comfortable with that. He'll come over to the bars to investigate for a few seconds. But is definitely territorial about his nice habitat.

I kind of think he wants to come out. He was sort of watching when Pickle was out the other night. I'm not going to rush it though.

He loves the Tiny Friends yippees. They're not the healthiest of treats but not bad and popular with both hamsters. He sits and gnaws on one loudly for ages - good for the teeth.

Thank you. He is not the fluffiest cutest robo out there - his face is robo like though. His body is more sleek and lean - maybe he needs fattening up a bit. But he has a lot of personality Quite encouraging in such a tiny robo - he doesn't seem the least bit "weak" for being so small.

Pip. It’s about time I started some taming and had him out of the cage - if I can get organised! He is well and truly settled in and now comes out earlier - early evening - and makes quite a racket to get your attention. Amazing how much noise a tiny little thing can make! We kept hearing these noises and thought- what on earth is he doing? What he is doing is throwing food out of the cage through the bars! Lots of food on the floor. Cheeky Robo. I think he is saying he wants feeding earlier as nothing else to do at that time. It’s a good reminder for what time to feed them as well .

Pickle seems to have learned from this and also started making a racket a bit later. Either rattles his water bottle or jumps up and down on his terracotta tray which rattles a bit.

So I’m getting the message that feeding needs to be earlier in winter.

Pip interacts through the bars but won’t take food from the palm of a hand and hides from it. He did venture out to take one of his favourite tiny friends sticks from me - at sticks length from my hand. He’s not happy with a hand in the cage though so probably needs some hand taming now. The good thing is he doesn’t entirely disappear or hide away - he stays out in the cage but goes away from you and partly behind or under something - but keeps popping out again. It’s like he wants to but doesn’t want to!

He is looking a bit more Robo like now. Filled out a little bit but still doesn’t have the fluffy Robo look really - his fur is very sleek at the sides. He is still teeny tiny and full of gung ho personality.
