Default Re: Say hello to Pip (Aka Pipkin)

Saw Pip last night. I was up late to do Pickle's second lot of meds and Pip clearly couldn't wait any longer to come out. So he was out and about in his cage. Jumping in and out of his wheel. We had the odd little chat. Tried to give him a bit of porridge on a spoon - had just made the porridge for Pickle. But he ran away from that. Then came out again. Wasn't interested in the porridge (I left it in the cage in the end and he didn't eat it).

So a bit of hide and seek and venturing out again but the odd little chat. Every time I spoke to him he listened a bit then jumped in his wheel and ran so fast he flipped right over. So I think it scared him when I talked to him. So I left him to run normally in his wheel.

I still cannot believe how incredibly tiny he is - I don't think I've seen such a tiny robo before. Only had one before but seen plenty of photos of robos. He must be at least half the size of our last robo. Who was about average. Almost looks like a couple of weeks old baby size. I am thinking he must be a runt. If I'd known he was that small I would have thought twice about a narrower bar cage instead! But I think it's fine.

For a very tiny hamster, Pip is a real pooper. After the first night there were a lot of poops! Tiny little poops. Quite a few on the sand bath but also poops in every single shelf and surface, even in a food dish! Maybe his way of marking his cage but I wouldn’t have thought a hamster could poop so much in one night!

Maybe rename him Poopkin. He seems to be settling in well.

Pip, for a teeny tiny hamster, is intrepid. I had a quick scan of the webcam yesterday to see what he’s been doing the night before as hadn’t seen him before bedtime. Yet again he is doing a darevil trek across the top of the tube and then standing on it on his back legs to reach the roof and trying to hang from the roof (clearly looking for a way out) - which he finally gave up trying to do.

Aw he looks love!y, quite the character too!

When I adopted 3 robos one of them was much smaller, Maple. She was adorable. Your Pip reminds me of her.

Thanks flower fairy. So he’s not unique then . Last night I tried putting my hand in the cage with treats on - he almost approached but then shot off again. A bit hide and seek and indecisive. But at least didn’t run away terrified and bury himself (which Nugget used to do).

Of course he is unique!!! Maple would sit on my hand. The joy after Flower and Fairy who wouldnt come out of hiding when I was within 10 miles of their cages (may be slightly exagerating).

I can imagine . Nugget was like that - never sat on my hand. Only held him a couple of times. I’m feeling more positive about Pip who stays in the open in his cage when you open the door or put your hand in.

Aww Pipkin is gorgeous, love his name as well. He's definitely landed on his paws with you Serendipity. Looking forward to reading more about him .
