Question A black Roborovski ?

Hi people !
I cant find anything about this and hamsterhideout is not responding and can't make an acount there.
I adopted a hamster a day ago and she is sooo small.
She is older than my Winterhvite but so much smaler. Her behaviour is very much alike the robo. She does not walk she runs. She does not have a dorsol stripe. And she runs on her wheel so fast that she files out of it. I adopted her yesterday and previous owner said shes a dwarf. But her personality is just robo. She is so fast i cant get a picture of her. But i have a video so if it is possible i am going to try upload it.
Sorry for my english

Do someone know if robos can come in black ?

Thanx
Linn from Norway

Hello and welcome to HC!

Black is not a Roborovski colour as far as i'm aware, so its unlikely that she is one.

You can get very small russian dwarf hamsters.
Russians and Robos have different facial features.

Could you post a photo please?

It's an interesting question as I recently saw a black and white roborovski up for adoption and had to look twice. I had never heard of robos coming in that colouring but apparently there is a "mottled" or piebald colouring of black and white. I've not heard of an all black one though. A photo would help.

According to Wikipedia there is a recessive all black bred in Finland - quite rare by the sound of it.

Do you know how old she is? If she is very young she could be a tiny russian dwarf but from the above link it seems there are some black robos!

Have a look at the back legs. Robos are quite distinctive in that way. They have longer legs than most species of hamster and it's more noticeable with the back legs.

Make sure there is only soft substrate to land on near the wheel if she's flying out!

I know of some Roborovski that have markings that are dark enough to appear black and the father of Simeon, my old Blue Pied boy had very dark markings so I suppose it's possible that your Robo could be Black/Blue.

Here's a photo of Simeon's brother Reuben showing the colour on the markings... I know this one is patchy as he's a pied but is your hamster a similar shade to Reuben's darker patches?

Do you have a photo and then we'll be able to have a better idea on whether she is a Robo?

That is just like the one I saw for adoption Fluffagrams. I had never seen that colouring before. Sadly he was snapped up before I had chance.

That's a shame, they really are lovely and I know you'd have given them a good home.

That is interesting that you saw one up for adoption though. The colouring is still not all that common and I believe that most of the UK's blues have been from club breeders. Where did you see him/her for adoption?
