Oh so u can see my photos? I could not figure out how to post them! Lol yes he has a clear niteangel wheel and I’m not too keen on saucers just cuz I heard horror stories from a bunch of popular hamster you tubers his food bowl is on the platform in between his little wood house and wheel. And I do give my hamsters fresh veggies. It I prefer to give them to them by hand which is what I do with my Syrian so they don’t take them back to the nest to spoil since I can’t hand feed my robo right now I’ve been giving him freeze dried fruits and veggies since he can take those to his nest. I do want to redo the left side of his cage being he doesn’t go over there much from what I seen on the night cam I wanna make it more like the right side. Hopefully he warms up and starts coming out cuz he’s so cute I can’t stand not seeing him lol

Thank you! My favorite part of the cage is the underground tunnel he can go in the entrance towards the front and come out in the back I covered the entrances with bendy bridges my Syrian love it he actually made his nest in there lol.

He might have more than one nest at some point as well. Our Robo had a nest right in front of his wheel under the substrate (because he loved his wheel when he got that hang of it). But I then got him a labyrinth house and he moved into that.

My cage cleaning strategy ended up being different with a Robo due to the way he reacted. So I would only spit clean one half of the cage (left or right side- his house on the right and his other nest on the left).

If I did anything like disturb his house or spot clean he bolted and moved into his wheel nest. So I’d leave that half a week or two then spot clean that half and he’d move back to his house again . It worked well so one half of the cage was always bun disturbed and smelled familiar.

I wouldn’t worry about the fresh veg as long as it’s a tiny bit. Like half a thumbnail sized but. Because unlike our Syrians our Robo never pouched the veg or took it to the nest. He would sit snd eat what he wanted and leave the rest there. He ate such a tiny amount of it.

Not sure what the issue with flying saucers is as long as there’s a main wheel as well. But not essential to have one.

What an inspirational set up! It's beautiful. Wished we could get niteangel wheels over here.

It is. Just seen the other photo with the hammy on! He is so gorgeous. Still looks like a baby as well.

My concern would be about his wheel area - initially. I'd suggest moving the steps to where the branch is (right next the wheel) and moving the bendy bridge and branch somewhere else in the cage - just for now. And maybe having something like a hemp mat on the shelf.

Basically so that area round the wheel is clear and only soft landings on the substrate past the shelf or the hemp mat (so the edges of the platform aren't hard).

Because he will fly off his wheel at first! So there's nothing hard he can hit as he flies off. Until he gets used to it - which might take a couple of weeks.

I know it would mess up your lovely set up a bit - but you could put the items back where they were once he's experienced in wheeling and doesn't fly off!

I've gotten the idea that the saucers might not be so good too; something about running on a slant. But it's the only thing Bean is using. Maybe eventually he'll get on the regular wheel. It's a 6.5 inch and seems to spin easily, and I built up the bedding in front of it so it would be easier to get onto, but still no sign of its being used.

On top of the platform is a cork mat so it is pretty soft and I did think about the flying off I didn’t have anything by his wheel at first but as I been watching the night camera for the past week he hasn’t flown off at all so I put it back I guess he’s a little wheel expert haha. He’s definitely a shy and timid one but our house is on the noisy side with my 7 year old and puppy so I know it’s gonna take longer to get used to

Oh that's great if he's not flying off the wheel . Harmless - it's correct that flying saucers aren't good as a main wheel for a Syrian hamster - but they are fine for dwarf hamsters who are much smaller so can run straight on them. Syrians can run at a funny bendy angle on a saucer if not using it properly. So a main wheel for a syrian should be an upright one ideally - although a saucer is fine for an additional wheel (most people don't have room for an upright wheel AND a 12" flying saucer!). Or for out of cage time in a playpen eg.

Robos absolutely love saucers. As well as upright wheels. As their wheels and saucers are smaller I had both in my cage and our robo would go between them - you could literally see him smiling lol. He also seemed to like sitting in the middle of the saucer after a run. But its an optional bonus rather than a necessity.

I've got a nightcam too - it's great. Can watch the hamster on my phone after going to bed. It's actually a small security camera/baby monitor type thing. Wasn't that expensive either. Records and does live view.

Yes mine is actually advertised as a dog cam but there all the same. I originally bought it for my puppy when I wasn’t home to see if he was crying in the cage or not. But now use it for my hamsters I love watching them at night. As for my robo coconut I haven’t seen any progress he still isn’t coming out when I’m up he actually won’t even come out with the nightlight on it had to be pitch black I’m just gonna have to wait it out today is week 1 since we had him so I’ll keep y’all updated over the next week
