Default New with hammsters

Hi guys

Recently i bought a hammster (2 weeks ago) It's the very small kind, the roborovski.

He is very scared of me, even tho i give him snacks he accepts them very cautiously. Also when i put in my hand lots of food he goes very slowly into it and stuffs it in its mouth.

The probleme is when i try to hold him up or grab him he gets very anxious and starts running like crazy, he even threw himself from my hands from e 1,50m height =( he is fine but he doesnt know how to measure altitudes it seems. Also when i tried to grab him from the ground he was very nervous running around.

I m new in this world of having a hammster as a PET, i enjoy them a lot but idk how to tame one....i'm getting very upset as i dont see the hammster liking me at all, even being gentle and trying to grabhim slowly =(

I will appreciate any help recieved.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english

Robos can be hard to hand tame, go slowly, let him have plenty of time getting used to your hands, he will probably walk on to your hand with time then you can begin to gently lift him just slightly at first very gradually getting him used to being handled.
You can also try getting him to walk into a tube or something similar then put your hand by the opening so he can walk over your hand as he comes out again (putting a treat in the tube) baby steps, don’t rush things or do things he doesn’t seem happy with, never grab him & try not to approach him from above as being prey animals they find that very threatening.

From what I have read, robos are the hardest to tame, i have had mine since Novemeber last year and he will gladly take food from me, and eat off a spoon whilst I am holding it, but he can soon zoom off and can still very easily be spooked. Apart from weighing him I have only tried one interaction with a cardboard box set up with lots of toys for him to play in, but it was so obvious he was just scared that I have never put him thru it again. He seems to be happy in his cage, so I leave him be. Some robos are like that.
Also, they can be very jumpy indeed, a good idea is to have a little travel cage or a tall/long jug type of thing to transport your hamster in if needed.

For now I would just stick to giving him snacks and see how it goes.

I think you're going a bit too fast with the taming process. Spend more time just near the cage, speaking, let your hand in the cage for spot cleaning and to give treats. When your little one relaxes (and you'll probably need a few more weeks), you can try to have him pick a treat in a jar/carrier and take him in the empty, shut bathtub with toys. If you sit there with him he'll run around and get used to your smell. Victoria Raechel has a great video on youtube about how she tamed her robo. Good luck!
