Default Male Or Female Robo

Hello,

Is there a difference to which one makes a better pet?. Do the males smell more than the females? Are the Males more calmer than the females?

Thanks

well i've only ever had female robos but as far as i know there isn't much difference. The only thing i've heard of is that females can become less social as they get older where as males stay the same. Although my robo is about 2 years 3 months she seem fine but can be grumpy with me sometimes.
It really just depends on whats availible near you, either pet shop or breeder.
neither are calmer than the other as far as i know
re you thinking of getting some robos???

Thank you for your reply . Yes im thinking of getting a robo. Im going for one because I don't want to deal with splitting a pair up after fighting.

There is a local garden centre with a pet section. I phoned them up & they keep syrians, Robos & Chinease Dwarfs.

They only sell the Robos singley because of the chance of fighting. I never asked about the Chinease Dwarfs because they don't appeal to me.

But I thought the fact they are only selling Robos singley they might be a good choice to buy my robo there.

Yes somewhere that thinks about the wellfare of there hamsters before they go to a new home is always a good sign. Although i don't think they should completely stop selling them in pairs or groups as people who are prepared for the risk will see the benefits of keeping the with others.

Hi Silver

I think there are very slight differences between the male and female robo hamster, but other people may not think so, but i will tell you my oppinon

Males have a much more noticeable scent gland to look at and if you gently touch the scent gland you can detect a slight scent - obviously this is stronger with breeding males who are living with females and also with newly introduced robos, but i am not sure if this would be the same with just one male robo living on his own - i dont think he would use his scent gland as much, especially as there are not other robos from him to even smell.

Another difference is that male robos tend to get slightly bigger and mine seem lazier and more docile, but again, this might not be the case with other people, but i find that my tamest ones have always been males, but there is not much difference with them - the females tend to be more active and always wanting to explore while the males will occasionaly sit still and be stroked.

It does make a big difference if you get them from a breeder though, as they have usually been handled from the time they are 2 weeks old, whereas pet shops dont handle their at all - but i suppose this could be over come with regular handling and a patient owner

Hello Tammy .

Thank you. Lots of usefull info there . Im still undecided male or female. Female could be good fun watching her, whilst it would be nice to have one that will allow to be touched.

I guess it all depends on wether you put the time in which I have lots of . I bet you it will all be decided on which one looks the cutest in the shop .

I would love a breeders Robo but none near me .
