Bar spacing for roborovski? Meshing advice?
Hello!
Thank you all for helping me determine that my hamster, Panda is actually a robo.
I recently bought a Duna fun cage for her, to give her some more space and some pipes. I contacted the company who makes them, who told me the bar spacing is 7.5mm which is suitable for the roborovski. It only has bars in the middle of the cage.
After putting it into use I found out that the bars are actually 10mm...I'm unsure if that would be a problem for a grown female robo.
What are your thoughts? Currently a large box is around the cage to keep her inside. No break out attempts yet though.
I consider meshing the middle part. Do you know if I need to use a specific material for this?
Everyone is so kind on this website. I feel very welcome as a new member 😊 thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about the bar spacing, but I know the middle part can actually be removed from the Duna Fun, basically giving you a Mini Duna or a Duna Multy depending on which version you have. This might be a good option in the short term until you can get some more information about the bar spacing.

I'd say 1/4" bar spacing is the BIGGEST spacing for robos. Basically if you can easily squeeze the tip of your little finger between the bars, so can your robo.
For mesh maybe 1/4" X 1/4" ? Would insect mesh be ok? Definitely won't be able to get through that

Insect mesh and similar things are very unsafe as they're typically fabric or very soft materials that would be too easy for hamsters to chew through. Also, too small of an opening with bar spacing and/or mesh would be a potential safety concern from my perspective as this is known to cause serious tooth related injury in gerbils(although biting bars or mesh is never good for teeth).

Re: Bar spacing for roborovski? Meshing advice?
Is it the Duna Fun or the Duna Fun large? On both of them, the space between the bars looks smaller than 1cm. I think it's probably fine. However if it's the small one, the cage is a bit small for a robo. They do better with more floor space and less height, because they can climb and fall and hurt themselves. If it's the large one then look at any fall risks as there'll be a way round it. Have you actually measured the gap between the bars (without including the bar itself?).
