New Roborovski Owner...Finnegan
I bought a Roborovski hamster today. Whoa, he's fast! I knew that based on my research and watching videos, but it's really something to see. I can't imagine ever being able to catch him.
I had a different name picked out for him, but he looks like a Finnegan and I have no idea why so that may be his name.
Tried to upload a picture, but the file size is too large and I don't know how to change that on a phone.
Thanks to everyone who has posted here about their own Roborovski hamsters!

Congrats!
Look forward to hearing more about little Finnegan as he settles in.
The easiest way to resize a photo on a phone is to email it to yourself, select small in the image option for the email, save & upload that copy.

Re: New Roborovski Owner...Finnegan
Is it normal for a Roborovski hamster to repeatedly pace on one end of his habitat? He's been doing it non-stop for approximately an hour and a half. He has a large home with a wheel and toys. Thank you.

Re: New Roborovski Owner...Finnegan
I have heard of them doing that, it may just be that he needs to adjust to his new home, it's such a huge change for them I would just let him settle & see how he goes.

Re: New Roborovski Owner...Finnegan
Sounds like he’s a bit stressed and needs time to adjust to his new home. He should settle soon. Have you go plenty of hides? My robo doesn’t like much open space

Re: New Roborovski Owner...Finnegan
Thank you, Cypher and Alpacassei.
I moved him to the corner so he could settle in without a lot of activity outside his home. Also, I added a rectangular flower pot on its side to fill in some of the space. He settled in the flower pot as soon as I put it in whereas he wouldn't go into the hamster house, at all. A Whimzee in the pacing path distracts him from the pacing.
Today he comes out of hiding when I call his name. I know he's not responding to his name; just the sound.
Again, thank you, Cypher and Alpacassei.

Great news, I look forward to hearing more about him. Yes they can pace like that unfortunately, I'd just see how he is in a few days and hope he settles down a bit.

Re: New Roborovski Owner...Finnegan
Thank you, mangoandmimi.
The pacing has stopped. In only a week, Finnegan has settled in nicely. He comes out every time I speak. He will run across my hand and take food from my fingers, but he won't sit in my hand. That's ok. I thought he might be a "look & don't touch" pet so I'm ok with whatever he chooses to do as far as human contact goes. He's very interested in everything and comes over to check when I put the camera in to take a picture or change out his bowls for cleaning.
I'm really enjoying this little guy!

Re: New Roborovski Owner...Finnegan
Congratulations! It's great he will run across your hand. Had our robo 18 monhts and he still runs away from my hand I can hold him if he's out of the cage and in a playpen. The trick is getting him out fo the cage for me! Best if they walk into something and you lift them out that way.
