Male or Female robo?
I have both a male and female Syrian. I’m hoping to get my first dwarf hamster in the summer, probably robo. I was wondering whether it is better to have a male or female. With my Syrians, my male hamster is a lot more friendly but I don’t know whether that’s because he’s older so he’s more used to me.
If you could maybe give me some pros and cons or something that would be great

Re: Male or Female robo?
Some people have found males to be a little more placid, I’ve not seen the biggest difference personally. It won’t be like the difference between a male and female Syrian as they really can be polar opposites as with robos they’re still equally speedy and generally you’ll have to put in about the same amount of effort to tame them. If you get one from a good breeder that handles them from a young age you are almost guaranteed an easier ride but your average pet shop robo may take months to form a bond with if at all. If you are thinking about a robo you must know that they are entirely different from a Syrian. Some will want nothing to do with you and you need to be ok with that, to treat them like a watch only pet. The vast majority do not want cuddles or anything of the kind. Progress is often slow, usually slower than with a Russian dwarf and that is why I don’t think they make the best pets for everyone. You need a lot of patience for them - either put the energy in to form a bond with them knowing it might take ages, or set them up in a nice cage and watch them go about their day with limited interaction. Robos are one of my favourite species it just takes the right owner and lifestyle I think.

Re: Male or Female robo?
I have had lots of female robos and only one male (my current roborovski, Mallow) one of my females (had 5 over the years) was friendly and would walk on my hand and take food from me and now Mallow is happy to take food from my hand and doesnt seem shy around me at all.
Just go with the one you fall for. Best of luck. I love roborovskis.
