Meet Jareth :)
Hi! New to the forum.
So I wasn't planning on getting a hamster yet, despite having done all the research and knowing everything I'd need, however I was in the shop yesterday and completely fell in love with this little guy. What sealed the deal was when I saw him getting picked on by another hamster. Poor wee thing was on his back screaming. I couldn't leave him there! So now he has a cage all to himself and seems to have settled into it really well already He was a lot smaller than the rest of them. Was told he's about 10 weeks atm. He'll be getting spoiled here!

He's a sweety but just a FYI he is not a Roborovski but a Hybrid Russian dwarf so be sure to read up on the proper diets and things they need special to maintain a healthy happy life.

Re: Meet Jareth :)
Yup it sure is. May wish to feed him some meal worms too They usually love them. Have you a sand bath for him? Dwarf Hamsters groom themselves by rolling in sand. Your little man looks like the store didn't offer him this luxury which is pretty common sad to say.
I used to use a clay water tray for plants with mine and used Children's Play sand. If you don't want to dry the play sand you can buy Chinchilla SAND not dust at P@H.
You'll enjoy watching him as he rolls and rolls about in the bath and be amazed at how much nicer his coat begins to become.

Re: Meet Jareth :)
Welcome to the forum & congrats on little Jareth
He is a lovely little hybrid, the food you have is fine for him, as Nancy says a few freeze dried mealworms, just one or two a day, & a little extra seed as a top up/treat like millet, sunflower or pumpkin seeds will go down well too, once he's settled a bit he'll benefit from a little bit of fresh veg daily but do avoid fruit & any sugary treats.
May of us use this sand for sand baths, it's about the best one I've found.

Re: Meet Jareth :)
Thank you
The burgess mix has dried mealworms in it actually. Did you mean extra or should I just make sure there are a couple in there when I'm measuring out his food?
No, currently no sand bath for him, but it's on my list. As I said, I really wasn't expecting to get a hamster that day so it was a rush round trying to remember as much of the stuff on my list as I could! Definitely think it was fate I went in that day. Poor wee guy was getting tortured by that other hamster.

It's already hard not to annoy everybody on facebook with loads of pictures. I feel that here that would be more acceptable :P
