Is Alex a male or female?

Harry and Alex were seperated a few days before the birth as they weren't getting on. They haven't been in contact since so there is no way she can be pregnant again. Harry is currently living on his own in temporary accomdation. The reason we put Harry and ALex back was that we needed the room for another one of our injuried Robos. We were always unsure of Alex's sex and I was more worried about putting a male in with two females. Now we known for sure that she is a girl after the babies have grown up, we will attempt to see if she can live with her sisters who have a large cage and no history of violence. We don't know that the original parent are related. We never intended to breed from the robos but they were incorrectly sold as two males. As soon as the original litter were born we removed the dad to prevent any more breeding. I didn't know where to go to have the babies sexed but did my best and they were sexed before they were old enough to breed. Pets at Home did tell me they thought Alex must be a male as they had been living together for a year with no pregnancies. Alex is coping well with motherhood and seems very happy and healthy.

i'm confused... how many litters have there been? First it says that they were separated before birth and the second quote says the dad was removed as soon as the litter was born.... is there more than one litter?

As soon as the original litter were born we removed the dad to prevent any more breeding.

They will mate as soon as the litter is born, so if the dad was removed even a couple of hours later, she could be pregnant.

Sorry for the confusion. There have been two litters. We started off with two hamsters, Sam and Gene sold as a "male" pair.They had five babies in March 2008. We didn't know Sam was female until after the birth. Gene was bought his own cage and removed the next day. Sam has never had a second litter. Two of the babies Alex and Harry were placed in the same cage after I incorrectly sexed Alex as male. As they reached sexual maturirty I had some doubts about wheter Alex was male. Harry was bitten by Alex during the pregnancy and was seperated from the cage days before the birth.
