Default Introducing Two Roborovskis of the same litter

Hello,

I just had my roborovski just 6 days ago and I am planning to get another one on the same litter. Will they still know each other after 6 days being apart? And how do I introduce them to each other? My current robo is lonely and always sleeping. I would want him to have a companion. I have two of each toys they'll be needing and also a big cage together and a spare cage in case they fight.

After six days its been too long for them to remember each other. Are you sure your robo needs a companion? It'll be a lot of changes having gone to be a single robo, then to have the stress of an introduction as well.
How old are they?

Hello and welcome. I have to agree with kyrill that they really should have been paired when you chose this one. Was there a reason for not choosing two at the same time from the litter? A change of mind perhaps?

Either way, it would be better if you stayed with the one robo now because more often than not, robos usually end up fighting and require separation at a later stage. It`s not really fair on them if one is bullied or attacked and it also means you need to be very aware of the behavioural signs. You will also require a spare cage/tank if they ever did need separating. Dwarf hamsters in general do well on their own and remember, hamsters are mostly nocturnal so it`s not unusual for a hamster to sleep all or most of the day. Roborovskis do seem to be very solitary in nature and like doing their own thing. They don`t require lots of handing or placed in a ball to run about as they are so fast, they can injure themselves if they fall.

People do keep pairs and small groups, but they are normally breeders. x

I keep 3 pairs, and I have introduced mother and daughter (Campbell's) after being apart for weeks in this thread:Ummmm, not sure who's right??!. I agree with the others, but just wanted to let you know that it can be done.

Hello,

Thank you very much for all your advice. I decided not to get my robo a companion and I think he is doing fine. I just got worried these past few days that he might get bored. Also, this is my first time to own a robo. I usually had syrians and winter whites. My robo is 2 months old. All your advice answered all of my questions thank you!

I agree with things said before...

I tried to reintroduce sister females but no luck so far... I also tried this with brothers from the same litter, no luck too...

I don`t have much experience with hamsters but it seems to me they are fine living with each other until they get mature and a bit older (few months). Then problems start...

And yes, robos do sleep a lot...(more than my russian hamsters) but I doubt they are bored especially if they have a nice wheel and fair amount of space...

They are fine on they own IMHO...

They do sleep a lot. I was very nervous the last time I saw my robo lay flat on his back with mouth open. I thought he's dead. :O Seems like his favorite sleeping position.
