Agreed, I've housed two very shy rescue robos who initially benefited from a smaller space until they were confident enough to cope with a large environment. Elderly hams, nursing mums, and those needing a little time in a hospital cage all need smaller spaces, but other than that, lots of zooming room is great

I have the alexander cage and my baby loves it! i dont think any cage it too big if you have the money and i'd even say having lots of space would give more room to have 2 each of everything to further prevent fights!

Now that I do disagree with unfortunately, it can be possible to go too large for ham pairs/groups, I just find that 100cm by 50cm is ok for our pairs.

Not all hams have the same limits, but we used to have a group of four hams and we had to be careful with their cages - we started with the biggest we could do, moved them down to a smaller cage temporarily and found they were much happier. After that we eventually upgraded them to 100cm by 50cm but never risked going bigger than that - didn't see the need, they'd been clear what they wanted

I only had to go from smaller to bigger with my groups here... I am about sure that Bobby and Miky ended up falling because I housed them in too small... There were housed n a ZZ1... I am learning a new thing ! Thanks for sharing this with us !

Interesting hearing what sizes people have their hamster pairs and groups in... I would be surprised if the boys didn't get along with something bigger than they have at the moment. They do run on their wheels lots but their absolute favourite thing to do is run about all over the cage, through and over all the toys (the cardboard box a tube of toothpaste came in has been a big hit).
It's like someone's been feeding them amphetamines and the wheels just aren't enough!

We've measured the room they'll be going in and I think we're (mostly him, I will be waving a hammer and trying to look helpful) going to construct something about 110/115cm by 55cm and have a separate unit to sit next to it to store food/substrate with the empty cage on top.

This won't be for a while though, there is more work that needs done in the spare room first and the wee men are still a bit too new to be moving them again so soon.

Just chiming in here to ask a quick question
Would a 120x30cm tank be too big for two robos? Would they get territorial over this space or would they be Ok? I know robos would love this much space but I've heard some people say that they'd not go over 100cm because of territorial issues..

I'd think that'd be fine
