I don't want to sound nasty but, when you buy any pet it's your responsibility to provide veterinary care when they become injured or unwell. If a dog lost a paw you wouldn't leave them without seeing a vet. Just because hamsters are small doesn't mean the dont deserve that same treatment. If your parents won't pay for the care try contacting the rspca as they provide emergency care but I'm not 100% about things they do if I knew where you were I could find you the nearest center, if you would like me to just let me know what area you are in and I will go on a hunt. If not if you explain to a vet practice they may be able to do something to help. Animals get infections very quickly and if they do the deteriorate very quickly. You can't put your hammy back in with the other 2 at all, the risk of her becoming seriously injured or worse. Pm me if you need to talk things through, I'm here to help but currently sat in my vets so I will only get on here to see pms I will try to get on here if I can but it may take me a while to reply. Sorry if I sound harsh I don't mean to be :-S x

Splitting the cage (or tank?) is okay, but giving her a cage of her own would be better. It depends on the size of the cage/tank they are currently in? and the amount of space they require. If splitting the cage/tank makes each area a lot smaller, it would be better to give the injured hamster her own space. Making a Bin cage from a storage box would be fine and your dad could probably help mesh it for you. If you look in the Housing and DIY sections on here there are some great tutorials on making a Bin style cage.

How is she managing to eat/drink? Have you made allowances for her to reach a bottle spout easily? Hope she`s okay.

As your hamster has serious wounds vet care is essential in this case. If you cannot provide the necessary vet care yourself then you need to phone somebody like RSPCA & ask them if they will see her. You, or your parents if you are under 16, have a legal responsibility to seek vet care for an injured or sick animal such as in this instance.

If you really can't get this hamster to a vet then think about signing her over to a rescue organisation so they can get her the appropriate treatment. Imagine the pain you would be in with a missing limb, your hamster feels that pain too. There would be a high risk of infection at the moment in these wounds & she may need antibiotics. If you just put her back in with the others then there will probably be more fighting & you could end up with more serious injuries or death. Please attend to these problems now.

I'm really not being shouty or anything, just want to make it clear how important it is for you to get some help for your hamster. If you need any advice about vets or rescue places etc, please ask on here & we will help you all we can.

With best wishes, shiny.

Talk to the vets and they can sort something out for you, I had a poorly gerbil right before christmas didn't have enough money and worried i couldn't afford to have him seen by a vet. But i popped in sat down and had a chat with the vet, she contacted RSPCA for me and they agreed to cover the consultation costs and i only had to pay for the treatment which wasn't a lot. As some people have said when you take in an animal it is your responsibility to provide veterinary care if they become ill or injured and these things should really be considered before getting any pet including small rodents.

Poor little ham! Did you manage to get seen by an vet? Have you not go a kind aunt or friend that can lend you some money for the hamster to get looked at? I think it is really important. Hope you get something sorted. Please let us know how you get on.

I am going to keep her seprrated from the rest. This weekend me and my dad will make a divider in the tank so she has no contact with the others. I think baytril is the one. I still need to search that.

Wow Ellis, hats a lot of hamsters.

hey hamsterlove, glad you are going to separate her from the others but you need to do it now, not wait until the weekend. Have you got something else you can keep her in for the moment?

I got my emergency cage from our local recycling centre for £2, it's small but for emergencies only. I have had a poorly guinea pig in it & it would be ideal for just separating hamsters until you get something better fixed up. Do you have a recycling place like this near you? It might be worth a look.

Also, have you given any more thought to getting her to a vets or rescue centre? She needs vet treatment for sure.
