Default Sarah the robo

Hey guys

As some of you probably know i have two robo girls named Sarah and Jenny. Jenny is very tamed: walks from hand to hand, eats treats on my hand and she is ok with being handled. Sarah is the completely opposite. I am taking them out 1-2 times every day for taming/playing sessions. Sarah doesn't like being handled and is very scared of me. I know that taking her out of her cage makes her stressed. My question is do i need to take Sarah out as often? Obviously i will take her out a few times each week. They live separately and i really don't want to stress Sarah.

Well, I'm pretty new to Robo's but, I wouldn't give up on getting Sarah hand tame just yet. She may surprise you. I'd suggest keeping handling times short, twice a day, every other day maybe? so she has a day in between to herself...?

I don't know if it would help any, but at least you know you're not stressing her out everyday, but still getting her used to being handled. Some Robo's just never tame though I'm sure I've read. Sarah might just be one of those Robo's.
They're lovely hams though aren't they? I got one recently and he's lovely

Its up to you, you don't need to handle her daily or to get her out daily. We prefer to let our robos avoid us if they want to so while Rufus is out daily (or at least every other day if he doesn't wake and actually want playtime) our other robo Lucky is out far less often because he prefers to stay in and be left alone

Thanks: i will take her out every other day. They are very cute and fun to watch and if tamed like Jenny- fun to play with.

I thought if they are alone and not being handled very often they will die quicker?

Er... I've never heard that and can't imagine it being at all true - if anything us trying to handle Lucky'd stress him into illness and probably lead to him dying far earlier than he will now. Its not made a difference to any of the three robos we've had in the past...
Where'd you hear that one?

I read that on a different website- that's what it said not exactly but something like that: "Roborovski hamsters are much happier when kept in pairs or small groups. Sometimes they have to be separated due to fighting caused by hormones or cage size/setup. After the hamsters are separated it is recommended to handle them more often as hamsters not handled often and living alone have a shorter life span."

It sure as heck never affected our robos... By our best estimates Skip was 33 months old when he died (old age), Whizz was 37 months old when she died (old age) and Muffin was 22 months old when he died (suspected rectal prolapse). Lucky is already 21 months old and doing absolutely fine.

Some animals will miss the company of others and be miserable and more likely to die early but I'm 99.999% sure robos are fine just getting the interaction they want to get. I know we've been incredibly lucky with our robos but letting them dictate how much attention they get has clearly worked great for us so far.

Wow your robos lived a long time. Thanks for your help, very much appreciated. You made me less worried

Yeah we got very lucky with them Whizz in particular didn't want interaction, she started out utterly petrified of us and in the end we reached an agreement - we didn't pester her unless we needed to (with the rare exception of a treat from outstretched fingers when she was clearly feeling brave) and she'd walk into a jar on request for health checks lol

I'm glad you're less worried now
