Re: Kiwi's thread
birthday boy kiwi was VERY brave last night
he stayed out whilst my hand was in the cage, took treats, came over and sniffed and BIT my fingers and showed general curiosity.
he's still scared to death of any sudden sounds or movements and will shoot off into one of his hideaways, but he's doing so well and i'm very proud.

Re: Kiwi's thread
Happy 1st Birthday to Kiwi. You can be rightly very proud of your beautiful boy, jesselle. He is adorable and you have done well in the short time you've had him to tame him as much as you have. Robos can be nervy little creatures. Best wishes to you both.

Re: Kiwi's thread
Rare occasion since he gets so scared, playpen whilst I spot clean.
Also, I've always thought kiwi's coat was quite a light orange. When I see other agouti robos they look really orange and dark! Is this a variation in agouti?

Re: Kiwi's thread
Agouti's come in all different shades depending on the heritage. Rolo's mum Daisy was a pure Agouti with lines stretching back 20 years, she was totally chocolate brown with very clear markings on her face, pretty much the exact standard which is what you would expect. Daisy then mated with Dasher who is husky, but not only that, his father The Cloud was white so that then came through diluting Rolo's colour. He and his litter mates were a real chocolate like mum when they were tiny, I only kept Rolo from that litter, and over his first year, a lot of the more orangy shade came through from Dasher, and his face is almost fully white now. The brown in his fur is also a lot lighter.
I have it in all my robos, my huskies are either orangy husky like Dasher, or creamy husky like Billy, my whites have varied shades of the grey undercoat, from quite a bit to hardly any being very very white from birth, an some have an almost champagne hue to the fur on the bum.
Kiwi will have husky in his lines somewhere leading to the orangy shades, he is adorable, a very happy birthday to your little man

Re: Kiwi's thread
hey pompom
thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed answer! i was wondering whether he had some husky or something in his lines, he really is a light peachy/apricot orangey colour, it's lovely! and yes, really light around the bum too! though i was confused as most agoutis look much darker than he does.
aw thanks for the happy birthday. he's been really quiet recently... seems to be sleeping a lot since i put the fitch substrate in. i hope he's ok! i've never known him go through a 'quiet' phase in the 3ish months i've had him.
