Roborovski colours

I love this breed of hamsters and thought they had just one colour but I have seen links for husky / white faced roborovski hamsters. Can anyone tell me how this fits into the Roborovski breed or is it just another name for them, if they have a slight difference in colour? I wondered if it was similar to shops giving syrians names such as teddy bear etc

Hiya,

Roborovskis come in two main colours: Agouti and White - Faced (Husky).

The White Faced can have the same colour all over as the Agouti, except for a white face, but some of them also have a more diluted all over colour too.

Some are so diluted that they are all white!

but there are only two main Genes: Agouti and White - Faced

the White - Faced is a dominant Gene.

Thanks thats great, I am guessing mine are agouti but I am looking to get some more and the ones I have seen are much paler. Thanks for your explanation, it all makes more sense now. Cheers

I would just love a husky robo, any ideas where I can get one?

I pursuaded Tammy to put her Husky boy to a female but who knows if they'll ever produce?!?

we got our husky faced from p@h although I wouldn't recommend you do the same, especially as my 'girls' now appear to be a boy and a girl

Yes, Naomi did pursuade me

I only have one Husky male which i recently obtained - he came from a person who couldnt keep him anymore

and he said he got him from a breeder who had Agouti and Husky Roborovskis - which he hasnt got contact details for anymore

i was originally weary of the man, and i only brought the Husky home just to take him away from an unloving home and never intended to breed from him.

Since i have had him i had someone ask me if i could provide them with a Husky pair - i explained to them that i had the male who had no pedigree but that i could pair him with one of my Agouti females and hopefully have some Husky babies.

Same with Naomi, i have explained that any babies will only have half of a pedigree and they will not be suitable for breeding.

Any babies which are born Agouti from this mating will either be kept by myself or given to family / friends who know that they cannot be used for breeding under any circumstance!!

So, if anyone would be interested in any spare babies which might be born from this mating then please let me know
