This is Chicken Nugget or Nugget for short(sorry about pic was trying to take it without flash so its kinda fuzzy).I brought him home Friday night from the pet store.Ive been waiting and waiting looking on Craigslist a trillion times a day with no luck so my husband surprised me with a trip to town to buy me a hammie I picked him out around 7:30 and had him home and in his new home by 8:30.He explored for a few hours and by 10:30 he was off and running on his wheel.He was getting ready for bed when I got up at 6:30 yesterday morning and I didnt see him again till after 11 last night.When I woke this morning I was able to see him for a few minutes before going back to bed again.I was wondering will he come out at all during the day for a quick bite of food and water once he gets more comfortable with his home ? I know they are mainly awake at night just wondering if I'll ever see him in the daytime.Also I've been talking to him so he will recognise my voice is that ok ? Its not freaking him out is it ? How long does it take for one to settle in ? I know each hammie is different.hammie 138.jpg

He looks like a lovely little one . He will pop out for a while in the day for a drink and something to eat, and to have a wee. Often they are only just awake enough to get what it is they want, so can be jumpier than you would expect. Whizzbit was out foraging and eating today with his eyes completely shut so I just watched him. Lola however was completely awake when I saw her so I knew it was fine to interact.

Talking to him is great, it's the first step of taming getting him used to your sound and that sound isn't a cause to worry at all

Darla's got so used to my voice now because I'm constantly talking to him It's quite useful to talk to them to let them know you're around, I find it makes Darla marginally less skittish It entirely depends how quickly they settle in, but let him go at his own pace. Rushing a skittish Robo, I've found, does more harm than good.

It depends on the ham as to whether you'll see him in the daytime. Darla doesn't come out until late in the evening most days, but he's nearly always up in the morning, so I feed him and talk to him then. I dare say he comes out during the day too, for a drink etc, but I'm not usually near his cage during the day It's so cute when he comes out half asleep, though -- his ears are flat and his eyes are barely open and he looks so sleepy

Yeah my lil neice liked the name too !! I thought he looked as small as a chicken nugget so I started calling him nugget....chicken nugget Still yet to see him come out during the day but he's still getting used to things heck all that activity he was doing last night I know for sure I wont see him again till 11 tonight but thats ok he's worth the wait
