We do use a ball - just an ordinary dwarf sized one with one door - and he loves it! He races round in it the whole time and I always feel mean putting him back.
We don't free-range him in the hamster room like we do the others but we do let him run round in the bath and we then get in with him to handle him. I felt he was already pretty tame when we got him from Leanne and, as he's living alone, I thought it would be nicer for him if we really worked on his taming so he could have some contact with us. It's definitely working as he now seems to wait to be picked up! He'll only tolerate about 10 minutes handling though - then he becomes
really speedy and impossible to hold!
Bean's wheel is the tiny 4.5" silent spinner on a stand which seems pretty perfect - he runs like the clappers and is amazing to watch!
I think the Cavia would be great for a robo - depending on the bar spacing you may need to mesh the roof though. Bean has surprised us a couple of times by leaping about 2 feet in the air straight up
I'd like to get Bean a bigger cage - I'm contemplating the Furry Life cage we've got but I'm still a bit worried about accessing him in that as there are a lot of nooks and crannies. At Highworth there was a 3 shelf Perfecto tank on the sales table - I purposely didn't ask the price as I don't have the money til payday but I don't think it sold. If it's at Alcester and is an ok price I may get it for Bean - he'd have loads more room and we'd be able to watch him really easily. He's very entertaining so that would be fab!
I'd recommend robos to anyone used to handling small animals - adults and older children (Will is brilliant with them). Young children would find them frustrating and letting a young child hold a robo could easily end in disaster as they are so wriggly and tiny. They are really easy to look after - they make very little mess for you to clean up and ours (I suspect most) will only tolerate a very short period of handling - so if you already have lots of animal demands on your time finding time to care for a robo isn't too difficult. Best of all they are adorable and so incredibly fast and entertaining to watch!
