I would like to add my own experiences of showing robos here as i think it might help to clear up a few problems.
With regards to which robo colours can actually be entered in to shows, it really does depend on the actual Show, Judge and Secretary.!!
According the NHC Handbook (which can be downloaded here:
NHC Handbook - National Hamster Council ) the Non Standard class is for colours and varieties for which no standard exists.
You might think this is a staight forward explanation but the problem is that this is interpreted by different judges to mean different things! Some judges interpret the rules as saying that only colours which are non standard but have also been officially recognised by the NHC can be entered in non standard.
Other judges interpret the rules differently and see it as any other colour apart from Agouti (Robos) are all non standard and can be entered in to non standard.
It really does depend on the judge on the day and what mood they are in!! I have entered Pied, White, Caramel and Husky robos at some of the shows i have been to and at some shows the same judge has decided to disqualify some of them as they have not been officially recognised, but judge them at other shows!
Some judges have judged them but wrote a little note on the pen label saying they shouldnt really be there.
Some judges dont mind them being there at all!
I think it also depends on how each person writes their show entries too. Personally i write out all of the class numbers and that's it. Other people will write down the hamster's species, sex, colour etc. and then the classes - giving the secretary an opportunity to not let them be entered - and again this depends on the secretary and their view of the rules!
It is all very much dependant on the circumstances of the day!
Currently, there are three robos colours (in addition to Agouti) that have been officially recognised by the NHC and are therefore officially 'allowed' in the Non - Standard class. These are: Brown Locus (aka Red Eyed / Caramel), Husky (Recessive White Faced) and Pied (Mottled).
Hope this helps!
