Default Re: connected cages?

Falling out happens pretty suddenly. One day they are good and the next one decides to start chasing the other, and it escalates from there. It can happen at any time without any indications, though I guess more likely around 3-6 months when hams go through their teenagery stage. I had to separate my first two robos after 5 months of their life together. My two younger girls who live with Leela are now between 3 and 4 months, and Viola started finding things about Olive that she doesn't like It's a hit or miss with cohabitation. I think it's always worth giving hams a chance to live in a pair, because I've seen the beneficial effects it has on their state of mind, and if it doesn't work out--it doesn't work out; there are options afterwards.

My two darlings, Mariah and Halle, started out together. Halle chased Mariah and made her squeak a lot. I separated them overnight and let them back together the next morning. They were so happy to be back together, so I just listened for them and hoped it would work. By the time they were fully grown, they were wonderful roommates. When Mariah was ill and dying, Halle guarded her little house doorway and protected her. After she was gone Halle grieved and tried to die. I force fed her and held her a lot. She stopped biting me which she had always liked to do. She lived 6 months after Mariah. I felt her grief so much. She was such a biter that I just couldn't get her another friend for fear of her killing it.
Now, I have Clara, all by herself. She too is a biter (I believe Halle's spirit must be in her). She is very possessive of her two bin cages. A human hand better be quick when taking out the food dish. If I got her a friend, I know she would kill it. But I still feel bad for her being alone. I do wish she liked me better. Maybe that will come. I take her out and let her run around which she loves; she just doesn't love me. Boo Hoo
