Default male and female...

I bought two baby robos about 4 months ago and was told they were both females.

Now that they are bigger, I have realised one is male, and one looks female... What I am asking is do you think it is likely they will breed?

They have been together for 4 months and there is no sign of babies, so is that odd?

What are the signs of a pregnant robo anyway?

if they are really male and female i think your are really lucky that there are no babies so far. you have to separate them...they will mate...

maybe they are the same sex then if they havent mated so far. easiest thing would be to take pictures and post them. ask moderator tammy22 or mickbirch knows a lot about robos as well...

I will certainly try to get a pic! but they are very fast!

The 'male' one has a prominant sac at the back and a yellow spot in the middle of his underside.

The white faced one I think is female doesn't seem to have this spot and the rear end doesn't look as swollen.

if one has teats and the other one doesnt they are probably really male and female...in that case i would separate them...

Sounds like the are a male and a emale from what you are describing. Post some pictures if you would like a more definate answer. They will breed in time, I am amazed that they havent already actually, if you dont want babies it would be best to seperate them.

There are some good photos for help with sexing on the national site...

Hamster sexing - National Hamster Council

If they are male and female then she could already be pregnant, robos can be fussy when it comes to breeding so sometimes a pair takes a while to produce a first litter, other times you cant stop them...its a little random. Some will stop a bit as it gets colder, some wont, so best idea is to separate them if they are different sexes, and hope there are no babies coming.

Some pairs can live together all there lives without a litter, some breed straight away and regularly after, others take long breaks inbetween
