My Dwarf hamster is confusing me ( taming)
ok so my hamster is really calm he hides out all day, lets me pet him, and doesn't run away. generally, he is calm, doesn't bite, and is pretty friendly in my opinion. But for some reason, when I put my palm in his cage he tries to avoid stepping on it. I really want to see him in my hand and I don't think it is because he is afraid of me.

Re: My Dwarf hamster is confusing me ( taming)
Hello and welcome to HC!
So, why exactly do you want to see him in your hand?
Your hand is in his territory and i don't understand why you expect him to step on it. He might if you put a tempting treat on it but otherwise it could be seen as an intruder.
If i would do that to one of my dwarfs who is normally very friendly, she'd bite it because she does not like things in her habitat that don't belong there.

Re: My Dwarf hamster is confusing me ( taming)
Thanks for replying, I don't exactly want to force him on my hand, I just see it as a part of the taming process and he actually looks for me when I am near. he isn't afraid he always shows up and takes treats from me willingly he also doesn't mind when I fix things around his cage. Thanks for saying this but my hamster likes climbing on my hand now and I put him back when he seems uncomfortable.

That's good news and working out well for both of you.
He seems to be well on his way to become a tame and confident hamster.
