Smile What Breed?

Hi I just got my dwarf a couple days ago and assumed he was a campbell but now I'm unsure if he's a hybrid? Can anyone help me understand what breed he is?

Hi sorry your picture isn't working. I generally upload to imgur then post a link here seems to be the easiest way to do it.

Unless you got him from a pedigree breeder (in which case you would know 100%) he will be a hybrid anyway. He may have a bit more of one species in him or the other but he'll definitely be a little mixture

He looks to be a Hybrid with a fair bit of winter white there as he is going in to Winter coat I'd say. The white eyebrows are a giveaway! He may well change back in the spring. Little cutie

Wow I never knew dwarves changed coat colors do syrians too? I've only owned syrians before this and to me they've looked the same all year around.
Thanks for your input he's super ))

Yes Winter whites do hence the name. They are sensitive more to the changes in light levels which triggers the coat to co to white. Hybrids who have the winter white gene 'strongly' shall we say will change to winter coat. Campbells don't change colour. Have you noticed him change at all since you got him? Sometimes they don't do a full change. You do get Campbells with a mottled colouring but he doesn't look mottled to me.

That's so interesting I love learning new things about hamsters! I've only had him a couple days and I've been mostly letting him settle into his new.home so I haven't paid too much attention to his colorings but I will definitely keep an eye out

Oh, that is interesting because your hamster looks very much like my adopted Russian dwarf. Mine is more white with a shorter stripe on his back.

So, are Russian dwarves and Hybrids the same kind of hamster? Since ours are grey white with stripes are they more Winter Whites and will their white bits of fur change to grey in the spring then?

Aw little twins almost(: no I believe hybrids are a mix but it can be hard sometimes to tell if it's a hybrid or just one of the many color vareitys of a winter white or Campbell.
I assume they may be more winter white it seems hard to tell I suppose we will have to wait and see in the coming months
