Default my little princess xx

hey there,

well ive had only 2 dwarf hamsters in my life and the first was a male called ben, he was a chinease dwarf hammie, he lived for 5 years n 2 month, which i know is a really long time as they are only expected to live up to 3 years he did pass and i was too upset to get another one. recently though i have bought another dwarf hammie, i was told at the pet shop it was a male but looking at how to sex a dwarf found out she is actualy a female! not really fussed however only had to change the name to pebbles i was also told she was about 8 month old but im worried she could be a fully grown adult, also i was told she was a campbells russian wich is what i wanted could anybody help me verify me with:

.the age
.the breed of hammie
.if im right in saying she is a female

thanks amii and pebbles the hammie x

It is really hard to tell from pics with a hammie but I think Pebbles looks most like a Pearl Winter White. It is impossible to age a hamster from a picture but pet shop hamsters are rarely as old as 8 months so I wold say a bit less than that. It does look like a mature adult though.
The pic of underneath is blurry but I think I can see a yellowish scent gland on the tummy. This is typical of a male hamster. Males can get quite stained with the yellowish scent secretions which does not happen with a female.
Sometimes it is hard to see the testicles in young WW or indeed adults if they are cold.
Females have nipple lines and males do not. Can you see any nipples?
Anyway you have a beautiful hamster

Have you fully researched breeding pebbles? I would not mate a pet shop hamster of any russian type as it is essential you know the genetic backgrounds. If your hamster came from P@H it is more than likely a hybrid and breeding these is not advised as you can get nasty diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma (eye disease), neurological problems and difficulties giving birth resulting in death of the mother.
You are not far from us as we are in Holmfirth.
If you want to breed you need to join a hamster club and learn lots about breeding then get some stock of known genetic background.
If you cannot sex your hamster then you are not ready to breed as it is critical to sex pups at 4 weeks old or you end up with in breeding.
