Re: My sweetie
I heard that you have to keep them full to stop leaking. I give Gopal (syrian) a glass water bottle and a ceramic water bowl just in case.

Re: My sweetie
Water bottles can have problems sometimes, which one are you using? I never fill mine to the top, I find they work better if you don't totally fill them, just check it now & then to make sure it is working ok but don't panic, they don't drink that much so if it's only been like that for a short while & she's been having some veg she won't be dehydrated or anything.
I always keep spare water bottles just in case one does stop working permanently & a small bowl can be useful too.
I really like the Bunny dwarf mix, if I had to choose just one I might well pick that so I think she'll do well with that & I'm sure she'll enjoy the mealworms.

Re: My sweetie
#flowerfairy I have a bad experience with water in bowls with hamsters I had 15 years ago. They were all spilling it, rather than drinking it. And then you have to deal with wet bedding ... We tried plastic, ceramic and glass bowls at that time. I guess I was lucky with water bottle I had back then, I used it for 5 years, no problems.
#cypher Thank you for responding and being so patient with me. She is still very active, so I guess she is ok for now. I use Fop's Tiziano safe water bottle, it has those suction cups and metal ending, there is also some rubber on the inside. Once again there is not much to choose from as far as water bottles go where I live. I've been looking at Living world holder+glass water holder. And I think one store had Ferplast sippy bottles. But there are some bad reviews out there for both options. Do you have any suggestions/favorites?

Re: My sweetie
I did have one of the living world glass bottles & holders, the bottles are fine but I did find attaching it to the holder a bit of a fiddle, I don't have much experience with other bottles though as I've stuck with the classic water bottles most of my hamster life & find they work really well, no problems at all, they don't leak (just a few tiny drips) & the ball in the spout rarely gets stuck, if it does a quick shake of the bottle or just running my finger over the spout gets it going again.
I either attach them to the bars or use the wooden stands from Rodipet.

Re: My sweetie
I checked the bottle before I went to bed and the water was running. Then I rechecked in the morning and none would come out again. Darn it! I ordered the classic bottle you mentioned. Actually I ordered two just in case one has some kind of error. They should be delivered tomorrow. I hope I will have more luck with those.
I tried filling the bottle I have only to half mark and it dripped. Really dripped, I bet it would get empty in a day. Then I filled it to 3/4 and it seemed to work ok. I will check again in an hour. I gave her water in a bottle cap as she came out of the cage and she checked it out but didn't drink it. I hope the water in the bottle got stuck later in the night.

Re: My sweetie
Awww lovely pics. A few people on here seem to use the classic bottles so hopefully they will be fine.
Not had a problem with any of mine spilling water bowls so far! I nearly feint with cuteness at the roborovskis drinking from their teeny china dishes ... (aw).

Re: My sweetie
My heart has melted!
I had a problem with Twinkle's water bottle a while back, I felt bad for not spotting it sooner. I always make sure I check the spout daily and always keep a spare bottle just in case.

Re: My sweetie
Isn't she a lovely little hammy! I have two bottles in both my hammy's cages. This way if one has a problem they have the other one. I check them every other day, sometimes every day. It takes 2 seconds to tap on the spout when I am checking on them or taking them out. I learned the hard way. I lost a gerbil because I didn't realize the bottle wasn't working. I also only use the 4 oz. bottles so I can't get lazy about changing their water. Those long bottle encourage people to fill them up and leave it until the water is low or nearly gone. They should really have fresh water, changed every other day at the very least. I'm glad you caught it. Don't beat yourself up.
