Confused - surpise babies

They are very cute. The babies start eating solids at about 5 days old. Supplement the diet with porridge oats, budgie seed, plain cooked chicken, boiled egg, chopped brocolli and greens like beans, cabbage etc. They like also cooked porridge, cooked pasta and rice, mashed veg. We give it in a pringles lid! Make sure they can also reach the water bottle now She will likely have more babies in about 7-10 days looking at those pups. Those look around 10-12 days I'd say.

Really?!? But they're so tiny I thought they were only about 5days old... my god. They more u know I suppose.The water bottles are low down already at least I've that goin for me

You're not an eejit! You learn as you go along! We're not judging you, it's been a bit of a shock to your system. You'll always get friendly helpful advice here!

Baby hamsters require higher protein than the adults so dry mealworms are a good source. Poundland/Poundstretcher sell these in the bird sections.

It will be a matter now of taking notes (written down on paper) of how many hamsters you have (adults, babies, their ages) and if any new babies are born, to whom and what date they were born so you know their exact age for separation.

Female and male babies can stay in same sex groups but Russian dwarf hamsters do just as well on their own. The dilemma you might have is finding enough good homes for any babies you can`t keep or have space for extra cages. But advertising on here is a good start for any babies you want knowledgeable homes for and not just kids pets. Nothing wrong with them being kids pets of course but hamsters do bite and kids and do take it personally. x

Thanks everyone... yer so good all adults are separate now... when I took Mario out yesterday he'd just spotted Luigi (i wouldn't be surprised if it was the 1st time he's seen her in days cos he's sooo lazy all he does it sleep and eat so unless he bumped into her at the food bowl she didn't exist ) anyway he was in the process of sniffing around her and about to have a go - no flowers or box of chocolates even ... then he was abducted by a giant hand and put into a bachelor pad by himself...

He's so lazy I swear... I'd say his few seconds of humpty dumpty is the only exercise he's had since we got him back during the summer...
Getting him a cage tomorrow for €10 second hand off a lad on adverts.ie. delighted with my bargain, I was going to dish out about €30 for a new one...

he'll have his very own wheel.. we'll see if he uses it

Worried about the wheel. Those sort of barred wheels are fine for rats and I think gerbils too (not 100% sure on this) but with hamsters it can cause a condition called bumble foot.
I would recommend getting a solid plastic wheel (like wodent wheel or silent spinner) if you want to try him with a wheel

You'd be better with a storage box Pickle. The wheel isn't suitable for a hamster and the cage is a bit small as well but it's better than a carrier and needs must. Due to the structure of the feet, which are not like those of rats and mice, hamsters need a solid wheel. If you do get this cage you need to line that wheel with a solid liner. Cardboard would so or better a bit of plastic from a file or something Attach it firmly.

I like the flying saucer wheels I'll get him one of those instead, I already have one of them but I've never witnessed him use it, we'll see.
getting another cage on Thursday too... was looking at some of the diy threads about doing tube bridges myself so he and the sons that'll be joining him will have loads of room.. might even be getting a 5th cage an a week or two if I can arrange a road trip to Waterford
