I was having problems wondering who the actual mother of the pups was? If there are two females arguing over a pinkie, do you know who the actual mother is? They really do need separating though for their own well being. These will be pet shop `hybrids` and hybrids as pets require dietary monitoring as they are prone to developing diabetes and some can have neurological issues. So breeding them isn`t really a good thing. x

I hope you take on Souffle's advice here, she's an expert when it comes to these situations, it's really not fair on a young hamster going through so many pregnancies at a young age.

The older pup was rehomed yesterday. I'm waiting for a new cage atm so all adults have a cage each.... pinky number 2 aka the one I didn't know was ok or not.. is ok. Its in with the furry pups and they are all with their mum peach in their own cage. Mario and Luigi are in a cage together atm... I only have two cages as I wasn't expecting to have issues with the females being together... I know ye probably think I'm a right eejit but hindsight is a bitch rubbing the fact that foresight isn't around to help

Older pup was male... but he's got a new home now... pinkies belong to Luigi, furries belong to Peach. That is my understanding using a bit of logic in the fact that Luigi was only taking pinkies in those ten mins... at what age is it ok to seperate them? The internet is a bit conflicting... I feel like I should be apologizing for being such an idiot on here but I guess no one starts off as an expert... thanks Souffle you're being a great help as are everyone else x thank you
As regards their dietary needs I get a food that contains shrimp and insects... I myself eat a lot of fish and give them some of that too... I don't give them fruit really cos I find they'll eat that rather than their dry food it if I did and fruit has a lot of sugar. I give them veg the odd time but I put trust in the fact that the dry food I buy is well balanced... as far as Luigi no1 was concerned (the one who passed away a few months ago) I believe he died as he escaped a few times and as their cages are on shelves I think he may have fallen at some stage while on an adventure and that may have led to his passing away
About the hybrid thing... Mario was from a breeder. I would have gotten the replacement Luigi from him but he hadn't any ready at the time. My son is only 5 I didn't like the idea of discussing death with him yet so I did the best I could

We all have to learn and we've all made mistakes Dapickle so no we don't think your an eeggjit LOL
You are getting it right now. The pups need separated from the opposite sex and from mum if she has another litter at around 3 1/2 - 4 weeks. The male pups certainly need out and away from all females by 4 weeks including mum! If she has more babes then take them all out otherwise leave the female pups with her.
Mario can go in a big storage box for now but I'd get him out still.

Have a look on the forum for DIY "bin cages". You could do one that would suffice in an afternoon once you have all the pieces. It might help you with your surprise separation needs. Glad you came here for advice.

I'm two days late but the same thing happened to me. Not much you can do except help their moms out. Also I highly recommend taking any older males out of the cage if you don't want any more surprise litters in the future.
