I don't feel bad, it's just a shame pet shops are even worse with hamsters than I realised.

Ivy will be properly cared for, and I love her to bits already. Just always interesting to have an idea of their colourings and everything, especially when she's so unusual.

It's not really the pet shops - it is the rodent farms that are breeding the animals without consideration of their future health. I have no doubt that they are kept in good conditions hygene wise and husbandry wise or else they would never pass the animal welfare inspections but that is not what matters when they reach their pet homes. They are supplying a demand from the pet shops which know and ask for colours and patterns which sell well.
Most pet stores do keep their animals in good conditions or else people would not buy from them and remember animals are generally not in pet stores for very long.
Your little one is lucky to have you and she looks very lovely and seems healthy so best wishes for her to have a healthy and long life.

I am sure that it will not change anything and pet shops will continue to sell hybrids which I am against, but now that there are so many more colours appearing in pure Campbells their argument will hold less water surely?

I can’t keep up with all the new colours appearing in pure Campbells! There are an amazing number of interesting colours now available including a blue which I saw for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

I was interested to read that kyrilliondaemon had an explanation from a store about why they stock hybrids. I was surprised to hear they bothered to reply, kyrilliondaemon, even if what they said is factually incorrect............

Silver, that has to be the cutest video I have ever seen. What a great little Hammy she was. I was laughing through the whole video. I have never seen a hammy quite that content to just stay there that long. She would have slept there all night if you'd let her.

It was about 10.30pm & I really wanted to go to bed. She was not giving up was she

She started to curl up & sleep on my lap but only if I had thick ski gloves on to shelter her (prolific biter) then in the summer when it was too hot to sit on my lap she sat on the sofa between my legs.

She was my micro puppy!

I've only seen pictures of blue Campbells & they look stunning I bet even more so in real life. I have always wondered if they keep the blue fur through out their life or if it fades

I agree about hybrids but have softened my very strong feelings about hybrids. Of course it is wrong to breed two different species the little hussy's! having been able to own both pure WW's & pure C's you can see why the hybrids can have health problems, they are two very different shaped bodies. They also are very different in their ways too.

In an ideal world of course this would not happen.

Where I have softened is my thoughts on buying Hybrids. This is because of my own personal situation has changed. I can't justify £60 it would cost me to buy a pure dwarf WW or C, & I doubt there are many people who can. So does this mean I will have to only have Robo's or Chinese dwarfs?. I would not risk a Chinese due to not stopping a breading line because there is diabetes. So this leaves me with Robo's. As mush as i love Rosey I know I will want another dwarf ham now or in the future, they are for me so much more than pets they are little furry soul mates & also therapy pets. So I can see myself at some point buying another Hybrid & keeping everything crossed the ham is well & if not that is the risk I knew when I buy one.

As much as we don't want the hybrids to be born it won't stop. I have a lot of love to give a little dwarf ham a lovely cage, food, toys & my time.

Of course if anyone wants to sponser a pure dwarf ham to get it to me then I would not say no

I didn't know that about Chinese either. I must be lucky with my guy - I've had him two and a half years (found as a stray so god knows how long he was out/how he survived) and he's still healthy and happy. I knew of course that diabetes was a risk but I didn't know some lines were still bred from if they had it.

I end up with all the rescues, so I expect some health issues. Rainbow my WW hybrid had a couple of abscesses... There is nothing more disgusting than cleaning pus off a dwarf hamster! So thankful she was amazingly tame

Despite how much she's bitten me - so am I

She loves the camera...

And is quite fond of her flying saucer

She's so cheeky and nosey, I've never had a hammy be so confident and interested in me so quickly!
