He looks like a boy to me but the picture is blurry. Trying putting him in a see through container and taking a picture of the underside.

I've tried putting him in a glass container but you can't see anything at all. He is too furry. I will try get another pic later. It's so hard to tell as the holes don't look too far apart. He was the only one left in the pet shop when we bought him but we plan to get another so needing to be 100% on sex. Will try get another pic later.

I'd say 90% sure male. He's got a little pink "pimple". Dwarf, right? Another helpful sign will be if he has a scent gland on his tummy.

He does have like a little pink pimple yeah. Is that the penis? I've checked his tummy and I can feel like a little ruff patch

Yup, that'd be his penis. I think I can see a scent gland too so I'm pretty confident you've got a boy there.

I see you're planning on getting him a buddy? Dwarfs don't need to have a cage mate; they're perfectly fine by themselves. Usually paired dwarfs have the biggest success rate if they're same gender, same litter (brothers, sisters). I have two brothers and they get on fairly well.

If you do introduce another hamster, I advise you to look up introduction methods and to be aware they may fall out via fighting. Then you'll need two cages, etc. etc. Sometimes the fights can result in a serious injury, or even death. It's worth weighing the pros and cons and finding out what you think is the best option.

If he's from a pet store he'll likely be a hybrid dwarf.
