Hi, I raise Campbell's and may be able to help.

No, they don't have to be kept in pairs. They can however, but need to be watched carefully to avoid fighting. About the food, I use a mix I make myself because I live in a place with no good hamster foods! Whereabouts are you?

I have two paired boys but they don't have to live in pairs. I probably wouldn't keep them in pairs again, because it does add a level of stress. While my boys get along fantastically, whenever something seems off I get nervous.

I feed a mix of oxbow and harlan tekland (for added protein). Hazel hamster I've heard is good as well.

Yes, Campbell's can get diabetes, so be sure to avoid sugary things.

I also have a pair of Campbell's hyrids. The boys have been together since birth and, other than a tussle now and then...usually Almond annoying Toffee, they have been fine. They have never hurt each other. However, you do have to pay close attention because a falling out can always happen...at any point in their lives. Before these guys even came to live with me I had bought 2 FOP Tamburino Naturala cages for them. One still sits in the shipping box, just waiting if I ever need it if they fall out. As long as you are committed to keeping a sharp eye out, and are prepared to do a sudden cage change for one of them, a pair is fine. It is a whole lot easier to have them separately though.

I've had two hybrids in pairs and they were fine you would just have to keep a very close eye on them and make sure there is two of everything (water bottles, houses, wheels etc)

I have two campbells that live separately, all of my dwarfs are living on their own as I feel they are less stressed and are all very happy

I feed them science selective as it is a complete food, mixed with burgess supa dwarf hamster harvest and some harry hamster.
They also get mealworms, sunflower seeds and peanuts added as needed.

As treats they get dried dandilions and herb mix, milkbones, critters choice sugar free treats and some millet spray.

And of course some veg now and then but not that often.

Most of my campbells live in pairs. I think it is nicer to see them kept together, unless there is proper fighting.
If they are from a breeder, then a pair from the same litter is a good chance of a happy life together. Although I have paired up youngsters from different litters and they are also very happy together

I don't keep pure Campbells but I have two pairs of hybrids at the moment and like lisab I prefer to give social species the chance to live together if they can. They don't strictly need to be but I do find its nicer for the hamsters sometimes and in time you get used to the hams and stop worrying so much over their friendship
