Dwarfs & HH's
ok so I have a quick question, which applys to all russian dwarfs so i wasnt sure where to post it but oh well.
Can you put a russian dwarf in a Hamster Heaven? If so are there any special requirements needed maybe because of their size difference from syrians. A friend of mine's syrian sadly passed away recently so she said she'd give me her new series HH (we originally bought the same model) so I'm thinking about watching out at the P@H adoption centre for a new russian. I turned into a big russian fan because of my fav old man fatty whos a hybrid.
So anyways anything I need to consider?
~ Any suggestions would be really helpful Thanks xx
Here's a pic of the other HH type I'm sure people have seen it before: Hamster Cages: great selection at zooplus: Hamster Heaven 80 Cage

Re: Dwarfs & HH's
Dependant on the size of the russian the bar spacing should be fine.
Mine were. But that wasn't with the 'new series' it was with the older version.
So i dont know on that sorry xx

Re: Dwarfs & HH's
It should be ok, but you'll need to keep an eye on it.
Our russians currently have 1cm bar spacing (the same as the hamster heaven) and are fine, but we didn't put them into the current cage until they were 6 months old and near fully grown.
They're a variety of shapes and sizes but none of the group has got out yet

Re: Dwarfs & HH's
well it says on the website 11mm, so I'm guessing slightly bigger than 1cm...if its a problem when their younger should I leave the shelf bits off at least until its bigger that way they probably won't even reach the bars without climbing on something (HH are quite deep right)...but then will that be enough floor space for him/her.

Re: Dwarfs & HH's
It'll be plenty of space, you just may need to watch when they're young. At worst maybe put a big box around it at first and hope they don't think to chew through it if they get through the bars?
If you get a pair (or group) its best to leave the shelves out in general though.

Re: Dwarfs & HH's
I have some extra small robo dwarfs (bet you didn't think they could get any smaller ) living in a hamster heaven and they can only just get their noses through the bars. There is no chance of escape for them so RC dwarfs should be fine The only think I can suggest is that if you are moving pairs/groups in then take out the shelf and also take out the tubes/penthouse as they cant climb the tubes

Re: Dwarfs & HH's
I had been wondering about yours Erin, just couldn't guarantee I wasn't missing something so didn't mention them.
We'd never be brave enough to risk ours in one lol

Re: Dwarfs & HH's
ok well thank you everyone for you help
When I do adopted I'll probably only be getting one russian because they dont normally come in pairs to the adoption centre in our P@H and also bcause I had a pair of russian but that didnt end well so I dont really wanna risk it :S
I'm going to leave the shelfs out until he or she is a little bigger, for both saftey reasons (may fall and hurt itself) and because I dont want him escaping, I've been lucky with my russian fattie because he comes out when called when he escapes but every hammys different so...
Thanks everyone xx
