Tomato sauce?
Hi, sorry I've been gone a while again.
Can I just ask, are little dwarfies OK to have things with tomato sauce on? I mean just tomato puree and water, no added sugar. I thought it was OK but now I'm starting to doubt myself. They love it on ther tea sometimes is all.

Re: Tomato sauce?
I think not, since tomato is a little sour, I know someone told me normal tomato is not good for them. I would wait for more opinions!

Re: Tomato sauce?
I think i read somewhere that tomato is too acidic? I might be wrong though, but I'm a bit too careful sometimes when it comes to food!

Re: Tomato sauce?
Yeah, it's just made with pure tomato puree with water to thin it down, and sometimes it's ready made tomato sauce, like from in tins of fish etc, but again this is just tomato puree and water. No sugar added. I do sometimes add a little bit of something like corriander or parsley or dill, just to jazz it up for everyone, but never any spices.
I'll be a bit carful till I know for sure. But I really hope it is OK for them, 'cause otherwise that's yet one more thing they can't have : ( I feel sorry for them.

Re: Tomato sauce?
Tomato is far too acidic for a dwarf! Also it is naturally high in sugar and so really shouldn't be given even as a treat. There are lira of things aside from green veg that are different that they can have:
Natural yoghurt, cooked egg white, poached chicken, tuna flakes, various seeds and nuts, rolled oat flakes, the occasional bran flake or non-sugary cereal, dry toast, crackers, baby food (no sugary ones), cold soup (no tomato based or sweet ingredients), and so on
Hope this gives you some idea

Maximus - This thread is years old so I'm guessing the OP already has an answer by now...
