Making wooden toys.

I put this in the wrong topic at first - i put it in Hamster Chat, not DIY

I'd love to do a bit of DIY, but im a bit of a perfectionist! I have done a bit of woodwork at school, and i reckon i'd easily be able to make a digging tower myself, but get somebody to do the hole at the bottom and i was going to get somebody to do ladders inside it
I was just wondering.. Milo isnt a chewer - at all haha. Would, it be okay if i used these - but the small ones, cant get a photo of the tiny ones, if not, what glue would i use?
And as for the wood - is there any wood i could use from somewhere like homebase, B&Q, Wickes?
