Exclamation How can I turn a hamster ball into a substrate container?

I have a hamster ball that is quite large that i wanna use to hold beech chips, but I don't know how to make it safe so that my Syrians foot doesn't possibly get stuck whiles she sits in it. (I'm only going to use one half of the ball)

cover holes with mesh or soft-screening or maybe even plug them up with tiny pieces of cardboard or even the beech chips themselves if they fit maybe, then also make sure you secure the ball in a way where it wont roll over or tip over and trap your hamster
