Default Turning hamster ball into a substrate container

Hello everyone! It has been a long time since I was here but here I am again!
Like 2 weeks ago, my aunt gave me a hamster ball during the Wilko sale since she didn’t know it was harmful for a hammy to use. I plan to transform a half of it into a container for my beech chips but I had no idea how to do that. I think you’re supposed to cover the breathing slits so they don’t get their paws trapped in I guess. The main point is, I don’t have many tools to do it so I am looking for a way to do it without major tools or skills or complicated things. Please reply if you know a way!
Thank you all for reading this thread
