Smile Safe Hamster Varnish For DIY enclosure

Hello Hamster Friends!

I am building a new enclosure for my adorable hamster Marnie! (who i will soon be posting pictures of) and I have run into a reoccurring problem. I simply cannot find a safe varnish that I can buy in large enough amounts. I have read several other threads and I know that one specific brand that people use is plastikote. I have purchased a small pot of this but it comes in very small amounts of about two ounces. This is not practical for me though because I would likely have to purchase a few containers and I am really trying to find a different varnish to use.

The base of the enclosure will be made out of melamine and laminate, but the sides that the mesh roof will be attached to will be varnished wood. I was also recommended a water based spray-on varnish called Deft Interior Clear Wood Finish Lacquer that is apparently "baby safe" once cured: tw=g&hvrand=5286659286440341643&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hv qmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9060556& hvtargid=pla-307068315263&psc=1

I live in the us so if anybody has any recommendations that could be purchased here it would be greatly appreciated!!
